So, I have it set up that Verizon charges for my phone bill every month on the 21st. And I hate it. All of my other bills I go in and program the payments to come out every other Friday on payday. I've got a spreadsheet and everything. But Verizon gives a decent discount for autopay, so I have it set up that way. The problem is, that I have to make sure there's enough money in my account on that particular day. And as you might expect, I'm not particularly good with my money, so that can be a challenge. Couple that with the fact that it can be up to 5 days after the 21st before the bill hits the bank account and you can see how things get a little stressful.
Also, I just got myself a new smart phone, so there's the one time set up fee, and the monthly rebated charge or whatever, I'm not really sure how it works. Point being, the bill this month is 188 where last month it was only 106. And somehow, I managed to get my account down to 88 dollars. Which is not enough to cover the bill, as you might have noticed.
I do however have 10 dollars in my wallet. The smart thing to do would be to save that money, in case I need milk or gas or something, and let the account overdraw, since payday is Friday and it will only be overdrawn for a couple of days. (N.B. The actual smart thing is to have an emergency fund, and to keep better track of your money.) But instead of the smart thing or the actual smart thing, I do the stupid thing, and head for the casino.
First up, the Little Vegas. I drop my 10 into the old stand by, Wild Life. I'm rolling 50 cents a spin, (Gonna get rich or die tryin', lol). Well, I manage to hit 5 rhinos in a row, and I've turned my 10 into 50, just like that. So I cash out, since 50 is a nice amount to have available in cash, better that 10, that's for sure.
But I've got the itch, so I take 20 and put it in African Skies, in honor of Juneteenth. and at 40 cents a spin, I hit the bonus 3 times, each time making a little more, and I roll that 20 into 50. So I cash out again, and definitely go home this time. Right after I sit down for a bit of Luck Will Have It. And it sure will, because I hit 2 wheel spin bonuses there too, cash out 80, and finally, this time for real, leave with 120 in my pocket.
Well, it's a little after 5, and the bank drive thru closes at 5:30, so I can run down there, pop the money into checking, and I'm safe 'til Friday. All I have to do is right turn into the bank parking lot, instead of left into the Happy Jacks parking lot.
Did you notice the foreshadowing, about 3 paragraphs ago, where I said "first up"? Yup, here we are at Happy Jacks. And I'm playing the new machine with the fancy games that don't really pay anything, unless you manage to hit a bonus. I start with Scarab, an advantage play game. Scarab plays in groups of 10 spins. Each spin, if you get any beetles on the screen, they lock in place. On the 10th spin, all the beetles turn into wilds, and if you have a lot of them, you can have a pretty good payday. The advantage comes if the person before you runs out of money before they can get to the end of a 10 spin cycle. Sometimes you can find a screen with a bunch of beetles, that's on like spin 6 or 7, and then you can get the wild tenth spin after only paying for 2 or 3.
But even better than that, if you're spinning 2 bucks a spin (since you've now got a pocket full of money, lol), is if 2 spins along you hit the bonus game. The bonus is free spins, either 5 spins with 10 wilds or 10 spins with 7 wilds or a third choice which is way too low for me to even pay attention to. I've got a hunch, so I pick 10 spins with 7 wilds, and I manage to hit a bunch of good ones, making 115 for the bonus. The 10th spin barely pays anything, unfortunately. I drop down to $1.20 a spin, and clear that one out, and actually come out a little bit ahead there.
I give Wild Life Deluxe a couple of wasted dollars, then switch over to Magic Moons. Now, a couple of weeks ago, over at Probably Not Actually Called Connexxions 2, I hit a massive win on Magic Moons on a dollar bet, stacking wilds and top symbol bears for a win of more than 500 dollars, which pro-rated on a dollar bet is actually slightly more than the theoretical maximum. It's almost worth ol' Big Chungus making fun of the look on my face (I thought I'd "only" won 160, I didn't realize how many lines I'd actually hit). She's still annoying, but I have to admit, at this point she's good luck.
But that was there, and this is here, and I didn't do quite that good. I did however hit a couple of Big Wins with bunches of wilds and high symbols, so that I was able to cash out 170 over all after having put only 20 bucks into the machine. I cash out and leave, just as Jeopardy is ending, at 5:30. Too late, unfortunately for me, to get to the bank.
So now I'm home, typing this story, 265 dollars in my wallet, 88 in my checking account, and a 188 dollar Verizon bill gonna hit tomorrow, probably. But now I will be ready for it. Fortunately this little adventure in no way reinforces the idea that gambling is the solution to all my financial problems. And tomorrow I'll drop this cash into the bank without even stopping at even one casino at all. You can bet on it.
