Nonetheless, the violent forced birth scene was frustrating to watch in our post-Roe v. Wade political and cultural context. Forced birth, pregnancy complications without medical help, and the prioritization of unborn, hypothetical life over a pregnant people’s health and safety may not be the same as a traditional rape scene, but it has a similarly traumatic effect to witness—especially right now.
Forced birth Roe v. Wade Pregnant people
The U.S. has always maintained among the highest maternal and infant mortality rates—especially among Black families and in states where abortion is more restricted—which will inevitably surge when providing care is a crime. Pregnant people

I can’t pretend I’m not excited about House of the Dragon, or that the show’s premiere doesn’t already have me hooked. But when I look at the young Rhaenyra and am so reminded of Daenerys, I’m struck with a feeling of dread about the inevitability of yet another compelling female character being dragged down by the patriarchy. The increasingly inescapable real-life misogyny all around us—abortion banned in many states, male abusers deified as heroes, fetuses accorded more rights than pregnant people—feels just as inescapable in a fantasy TV show. At some point, you just get tired of doom-watching.
So youre still excited for the show anyway? Got it. Retard.

It's got to be true, they said it on The View

{Spoiler} “Hey buddy, real sorry your wife and baby died. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. Say, any interest in plowing my 14 year old daughter?”
As for the forced birth scene that Jezebel is fake mad about… That was pretty graphic, but obviously invoking Roe v Wade here is forced nonsense. This twat acts like abortion was an option or something. She’s literally in labor, and the choice was they’re definitely both gonna die or maybe we can save the baby but the mom is still gonna die. Stop trying to make everything about your cause du jour and just watch the fucking show, retard.

I've got Jezebel's next thinkpiece ready to go, btw.
Why is Corlys Velaryon Blonde? In what should have been a series-changing casting decision, HBO showmakers can't help pushing white physical ideals onto Black Bodies
Are you guys even watching this show? I am not hearing any buzz about it
Anyway, are you enjoying it or nah
It's the same show basically, just trying to figure out a new set of characters and decide who I like and stuff. There are some big jumps forward in time that I think will start to bother me (for instance, this week's episode is 3 years ahead from last week's). And from what I understand, we're just a couple eps away from both Rhaenyra and Allicent are gonna be replaced by new actresses because they're jumping ahead to where they're adults. I guess they have to do cover a big time period if they want to actually get through all the shit covered in the book, but it feels like this is going to be distracting. It's hard enough remembering who everyone is because the Targaryens all look the same and have the same name (which I believe I pre-copmlained about); big time jumps and new actors aren't gonna help.
Also some of the CGI kinda sucks for such a big budget show. Anyway, I'm entertained and will keep watching.

It's okay so far.
Because there was sooooo much buzz around GOT, I feel like something EPIC has to happen all the time, even though that is really not how GOT started either. So far, the only big question that I have is....how the fuck do you ever lose with several dragons on your side?

Having read the book (#hb), this storyline takes place over like 25-30 years or so so there are super important characters that aren't even alive yet (spoiler). GoT fucked around with timelines from the book but that was mostly to not make everyone look like giant pervs (Dany was like 13 in the first book, Sansa was 11 or 12 I think) but I guess they figured there was really no way to condense this down too much.
In any case, enjoying the new show so far. I don't know why it makes me laugh but it's what, 170 years or whatever before GoT and its still the same 20 families popping around driving the plot (except for the Velaryons I guess, who weren't very important in GoT).

I read most of the book too, so I knew there was a long time period that they had to cover. I'm just trying to temper my optimism about the show because I can see the time jumps and actor changes and stuff being a little hard to follow.

Agreed. Also, while there are certainly characters that are going to die (spoiler?), there are still adults that will be around for quite a while so I wonder if they're going to age them up or what.
