It was what, 15 years or so between George Foster and Cecil Fielder when someone got to 50 HRs? It's crazy to see Bonds go from off the chart to 4th in one season.
I was thinking about this last night when I saw someone put Jeff Kent on their ballot: What's the weakest position in the HOF? It's gotta be 2nd, right? The only one that even seems close is catcher, especially if you don't split relief pitchers from starters.

That was a cool chart. I remember 600 seeming like some magical number that would never be reached; my whole life there were only 3 dudes in that club. Then 6 more got there between 2002 and 2016.
I think you're right about 2B being the weakest HOF position. The only guys I can think of off-hand are Ryne Sandberg, Joe Morgan, Roberto Alomar and Craig Biggio (who played like 4 different positions). I'm probably missing some obvious ones, but the point is that there aren't a whole lot of stars playing that position.

Rogers Hornsby is considered the GOAT of the old guys but otherwise it's pretty sparse.

Surprisingly bad: Third baseman

Agreed. Seems like a power position but Schmidt and Matthews (and I guess A-Rod and Pujols if you want to be generous) were the primary true power guys.

Oh, and Jackie Robinson was kind of a big deal I guess. Rod Carew was a second basemen for a while, but he converted. Not a very impressive list otherwise.
