They’re debating who could replace Nicholson in The Departed, Fennessey suggests James Caan, Simmons immediately says “no he’s too old.”
Now it’s a stupid comment just because they’re only 3 years apart regardless, but I’ll give you one guess which one of them is older.
I do like the ultimate choice they picked to replace him though (who naturally is 4 years older than Nicholson).
I just finished the Departed rewatchables. I wish I cared about anything as much as Bill Simmons cares about the authenticity of Boston accents in movies.

Now, I'm not gonna sit here and defend some of Simmons' idiocy but I can see where someone would have an issue with the accents in an Oscar winning movie that's based in Boston. I haven't listened to the podcast so I don't know if this is specific to this one or more of a general observation of his criticisms in other Boston based movies.
Also, who did he suggest to replace Nicholson as Frank Costello?

Gene Hackman
I did not think that was a bad choice like you did 79. Hackman could be a little more sinister than his character in The Firm and I think it would work.

Call me crazy, but I think "I do like the ultimate choice they picked to replace him though" indicates that 79 did not think that was a bad choice.
