This one really snuck up on us. The flooding is the worst I’ve ever seen here. I am OUT on ever buying property in Florida. I really think they are just going to level everything within a mile of water and rebuild it on stilts or with a garage on the first level.
Whenever I’m on the west coast of the state, I’m always struck by how close the water is to everything. No sand dunes, just nothing in the way.

Parts of the NC coast are this way. We used to vacation in Surf City, NC but when Fran hit in '96 it wiped away the cottage we rented every year. In fact, I think the entire oceanfront row is gone and the second row is now oceanfront.

I know where you mean. I have stayed there in a stilt house as well.
Isn't it a little racist to call it Black Friday? - Joy Behar
Also, there is a reason beach houses were built kind of shitty so you can just hose them out when they flood. Along the way some rich assholes decided they need a McMansion right on the beach.
I believe that because it was a different cost center code, then you can't make a claim that it can be used elsewhere. #Accounting
Unless Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine, or your mom "need" a few mil to bil, that's what we call an accounting trick
but I saw a Forbes article from someone way smarter than me who I’d probably end up working for that said no FEMA money went anywhere it shouldn’t have.
I believe that climate change/global warming are real things. I even believe that the actions of humans have an impact on it over time, although I'm not nearly smart enough to know how significant that impact is. But these people that do the whole "every big storm is because of climate change; fuck you, Republicans" thing are just so goddamn annoying.

Yeah, tying every single storm to climate change has become like crying wolf (lol). At some point people will just tune it out. And I agree--we're responsible for how the earth has changed significantly since the dawn of the industrial revolution but the earth's been around for millions of years so this amount of time is a mere drop in the bucket overall.
Also, we've gone way too many weather posts without any gifs:
