We did a week at a dude ranch in the Rockies when I was 12 or 13. Did at least one ride a day. One day we did an overnight trip and camped under the stars. I think that trip, we rode through a huge mountain meadow at one point and they let us full gallop them horses. I'd been at a good trot before, but never full gallop. Thrilling and a little scary.
End of week we competed in a camp rodeo. I was in the barrel race. Did not win.
One night, I made out with some 13 year old chick from CA (not really developed yet)
My lovely wife and I took a trip to the Twin Cities for Indigenous People's Day. It was a pretty low-key trip, but I'll recap it anyway.
We arrived pretty late Friday night and Ubered to our friends' (Nick and Julie) house. They live in a small town called Mendota Heights, which I guess is technically considered part of St. Paul but it's like a normal suburb rather than feeling like you're in the city. I had 2 PseudoSues and went to bed.
Saturday morning, they had to take their kids to soccer. Nick coaches their 7 year old daughter. The opposing coach (who, appropriately, has daughters on the team who are twins) for this particular game was a guy you may have heard of, by the name of Joseph Mauer. Julie is uncomfortably obsessed with celebrity encounters, so despite never hearnig of Mauer or knowing anything about baseball, she thinks this is just the cat's pajamas. Anyway, Wolfette and I slept in while they went to 2 youth soccer games. Because they're health nuts, Nick has a Saturday post-soccer ritual of going to the St. Paul farmer's market to stock up on fresh produce and overpriced local meats. We tagged along with him to check out the area a little bit. It was super exciting stuff. Had lunch back at their house, and then for some reason Wolfette volunteered for us to take their kids to the park because Julie wanted to take a nap before going out that night. Nick decided to come with us. After throwing a football around for a bit, we watched the beginning of Penn State-Iowa on his phone and drank a couple beers at a picnic table while Wolfette chased them around the playground.
Went back to the house and watched a little more of that game (he's a PSU grad, FWIW), but they had a babysitter (she was a cute-ish 22 year old; I didn't get a pic) arriving at 5 so we could go to dinner so we recorded the rest of the game (and didn't end up watching the rest of it). We (everyone except Wolfette) took an edible and then Ubered into St. Paul for a meal of food. I enjoyed a Return of the Mac Old Fashioned at the bar while waiting for our table, which was the best cocktail I've had in a long time. We shared the shishito peppers, chicken croquetas, and arancini for appetizers IIRC, and I enjoyed the fideua pasta, whatever that is. The waitress said it's like paella, but with pasta instead of rice. Pretty accurate description IMHO, and it was delightful. One of their friends had told them about a bar they like that does trivia on Saturday nights, so we decided to pop in there after dinner. It suuuuuucked. Drank a beer or 2 (Surly Furious, I think) and then we went to the final destination of the night, Ember and Ice at the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel. This hotel is right next to the Vikings practice facility, and I'm told it's where the visiting players usually stay. We didn't see any Lions, but there was a Vikings team meeting of some sort just breaking up in a conference room when we got there. Bunch of folks milling around trying to get a glimpse of famous people. Julie was once again excited to see celebs she had never heard of, and took a creep shot of a black guy that none of us recognized but I guess he was maybe a player or coach. After that I kinda BO'd for a while. I remember having a couple beers and at least one cocktail; we had a very lengthy and hilarious at the time discussion about how this fancy ass cocktail bar put bowls of Smartfood out on the tables; and we eventually walked home in a light drizzle. We had bought 2 takeout pizzas from the restaurant at the hotel before going upstairs to the bar, and I think we ate most of that on the walk home. I believe the girls went to bed, while Nick and I smoked a joint and drank Balvenie scotch outside. Then at like midnight we decided to watch a DVR'd Jeopardy for some reason, and we both passed out in recliners.
Sunday we took a little while to get motivated, then went for a short hike at some park. Not a real hike, just a mostly level walk through the woods that ended in a nice spot overlooking a lake. From there we went to Keg & Case, which is like an indoor market with restaurants and vendors, built inside the old Schmidt's brewery. It's on the same street as the shooting from the prior night, 1.5 miles away per Google maps. We got coffee and lunch (I got a grilled cheese O'Cheeze). Upstairs is a taproom for Clutch Brewing Company. Nick and I grabbed beers (I had a porter, not sure what his was) and we hung out outside for a bit. I texted Balls from there. Their kids were signed up for a fun run at 3:30, so we went back to the house to relax for a bit before that. I had 2 more beers while watching the second half of the Pats game, and then another edible. We decided to tag along to watch the kids run; that was pretty much what you'd expect it to be. Back to the house to watch Giants-Cowboys and Sox-Rays game 3. They didn't have a sitter that night, so we had dinner at the house - slow cooker pork tenderloin with apples/cabbage/onion, it was good - and then hung out by the fire in their yard for a while. The girls watched a chick flick and we watched Bills-Chiefs. I think we smoked again, but I'm not 100% sure tbh. We both fell asleep in the basement again, this time with wine glasses in our hands; I spilled some on my shirt but managed to keep the couch and carpet clean. I have fun.
Monday Wolfette and I went off and did our own thing for a while, starting at the Mall of America. I was pretty hungover; as a result of feeling a little bit off, something about the architecture of the place disoriented me to the point where I had to sit down and wait for a dizzy spell to pass. I managed not to puke in the middle of the mall, grabbed a burger and shake from Shake Shack, and then I felt fine the rest of the day. After the mall we went to something called Lake Harriet. There's a little food/ice cream/coffee shop on the shore; we grabbed beers (Summit EPA) and sat there people-watching for a while. Really pretty lake, and seems like a very fun spot to hang out in the summer (it wasn't very crowded despite the nice weather; the food place is usually closed for the season by now but they kept it it open for us, obviously). Took a walk around part of the lake, watched some lunatic go swimming after finishing his run, and we were on our way. Dinner at their house again (salmon, wild race, and roasted broccoli, if you must know), then we watched the Sox game. They go to bed at like 8:00 on weekdays, so we said our goodbyes and watched the rest of the game without them. Wolfette went to bed and I watched MNF till the end of regulation, but I crashed without watching OT because we were gettting up at 4:00 to go to the airport.

The Estelle restaurant looks good. I do also really enjoy Surly Furious. The hotel bar sounds fun too.
Sometime after noon today, one of the assistant coaches will deliver some food to me that was made by his aunt. It is an order of chicken yock which is something that looks like this....
About every 2-3 weeks, some family member of a coach will be making and selling loads of food, presumably to make some money. I often participate by purchasing.
I will also spend a little bit of time working on one of my WhatIf football teams as recruiting ended last night and I need to be prepared for the season. I am running the Mount Union Purple Raiders and experimenting with a wishbone offense. I have fun. It is my third season and I think that I might make the postseason though I will likely be a first-round patsy.
FRIDAY EVENING
I will be attending a local football game as the Hickory Hawks invade the home turf of the Kings Fork Bulldogs. These are our next two opponents. Kings Fork will win and I will be bored, but I'll get some laughs with the other coaches. Hopefully, I will see 1-2 of our players there and I will give him $10 to go to the concession stand to get me food and some for himself. Peanut M&M's or Snickers will be my choice. Unclear now if I will be hungry enough for a hot dog.
SATURDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON
I have no plans ironed out as of yet, however, I should be reviewing game film and setting up the game plan for our game against King's Fork. I've squared off with this DC quite a bit, so I already have a general idea of what we are going to do (two-tight and run the ball, hitches to the outside, throw RB on wheel routes, speed outs to WRs, that type of thing). Should probably do some putzing around the house as well including, but not limited to: laundry, dishes, yardwork, general cleaning and organizing.
At some point, I need to go to the ABC Store (I believe that you call them Packies) and pick up a bottle for our trainer who is leaving our school for a better opportunity. This will be a gift from the coaching staff. Midas whale pick up a bottle or two for me, as well.
I'll certainly make some FanDuel bets.
SATURDAY EVENING
Ohio State at Indiana. Seems likely that I will order a pizza. In fact, this place is right next to the ABC store so I will get take out there. Should probably taste test some of the liquor that night, as well.
SUNDAY MORNING
It's been a solid month since I've gone to guitar church so I need to make that move. While in Chesapeake, maybe I should pick up some food that I can't get out here - Mission BBQ might be the move. Support our troops.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Will spend most of that day getting DMs from Monty complaining about his fantasy team and their performance while watching Red Zone. Will note back to him that, due to byes and injuries, I am starting a lineup projected to score only 79 points. It usually takes 100+ to win in our league from week to week.
I'll certainly make some FanDuel bets.
SUNDAY EVENING
Coaches meeting at 5:00 which should take two hours where we will finalize the game plan and practice schedule for the week. Coach and his woman will feed us after. Last week was some chicken and greens. I'm hoping for a shrimp boil or something this week. I just hope that he doesn't hand me a Summer Shanty to drink because I don't want to have to spit in his face in his own home.
The NFL game is Indy at San Fran which sounds like a stinker to me, so I'll look for entertainment on Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu. Possibly even Apple TV or Disney Plus, as well. The Morning Show, maybe? I just wish that there was something good on Starz.
Isn't it a little racist to call it Black Friday? - Joy Behar
This chicken yock you mentioned and provided a photograph of... This is a soup of some sort? A quick glance at the pic before reading about it made me think it was coffee in a cup with some sort of pattern on it. I can now see that the "pattern" is in fact other ingredients inside the cup. Perhaps noodles?
Anyway, this all sounds like a pretty fun little weekend you have on tap for yourself. Thank you for taking the time to make a post, and I hope you enjoy yourself!

Yock combines soy sauce, ketchup, peppers, chicken, onions, and thick noodles to create a tangy and flavorful dish.

That sounds like it could be quite flavor-yumful. Enjoy!
