Hi Paje, are you guys calling for that new coaches firing yet? Are there openly racist remarks by anyone?
What a terrific start!
Most of the ire seems to be directed at O.C. Tommy Rees right now. But there are some who have given up on Freeman already. Here's some quotes from the Irish Illustrated message board I frequent:
It took Freeman 9 months to make this an undisciplined team he’s not turning it around this year.
This press conference really showing Freeman's inexperience across the board. This is really turning into a dumpster fire, unfortunately.
I was one of those that shouted for Fickell to be hired. But jerkoff Swarbrick effed it up. He is a lazy scum. And now what do all the experts think about the Freeman hire? A little patience and we would have had Fickell. He’s an outstanding football coach. And no, we wouldn’t have lost all the recruits and half the roster like all the bed wetting Freeman cheerleaders would have you believe. A players coach. Beware.
I've yet to see any openly racist remarks, so those must be getting made behind closed doors. From past experience (Ty Willingham) a 6-6 season is when the racists remarks really start up. And 6-6 or worse is very much on the table. So far its just been some thinly veiled racism like this:
I think it was a woke hiring. Sorry. Just how I feel. The administration panicked when Kelly went to LSU, fearing the loss of a recruiting class the guy who was a "friend" to all the players was hired. No national search. No nothing.
A couple of people have use the "woke" hiring line.
Fun times.
Yeah, Clay Travis went through their remaining schedule and I think they will be very lucky to get to 6-6.
vs. Cal @ North Carolina vs. BYU (In Vegas. rickm3, thoughts?) vs. Stanford vs. UNLV @ Syracuse vs. Clemson vs. Navy vs. Boston College @usc
I think UNLV and Navy are the only guaranteed wins. Every other game is a contest.

BC is terrible so that's another W.
Also, paje--do you post cheeks on Irish Illustrated as well?
My sources are telling me ND is cooling on Devin Leary a bit. With Drew Pyne entering the portal they want someone who can come in and compete for the job in the spring and the Leary injury prevents that. I'm hearing Illinois is a favorite for him now. Does he have a brother there or something Flush?
I think its DJU to UCLA and Brennan Armstrong from UVA to Syracuse. For ND, its possibly Hudson Card; but Michael Pratt from Tulane is who they really want. He hasn't entered the portal yet, but if he does I think Notre Dame will make a strong push for him.
They also have interest in this Iowa WR- Keagan Johnson. Dong, thoughts? I think I like this kid Dante Cephas from Kent St. a little bit more. Looks like it will come down to Penn St. and Notre Dame for Cephas.
Keagan is talented, he was my favorite of Iowa's receivers but was essentially out all last year. He's better IMO than Charlie Jones who only had 110 catches for 1300 yards once he got out of Iowa's system.
And yes, Leary's younger brother was in Illinois's recruiting class this year I believe.

Yeah, Leary's brother is at Illinois. I saw where they were saying Rutgers and Missouri were possibilities for Leary and that made me laugh. They were only mentioned because he's from New Jersey and Drinkwitz recruited him to NC State.
paje, I saw where Ickey Ekwonu's brother at ND put his name in the portal. How was he at LB this year? We might have a need at LB if Payton Wilson and Drake Thomas leave for the draft.

Yeah, Ickey's brother Osita entered the portal (ridiculous names). He was mostly a special teamer who never really cracked the two deep. He was kind of a tweener between LB and DE, never really found a home at either position and started getting passed over by some of the younger guys, so a transfer makes sense. Can't really say I saw much of him, but he might be productive if he lands in the right spot.
Can someone pls dumb this thing down for me and Prez?
These guys can switch schools every year? Whats the incentive? Does the current school have to
idk, its over money i guess. Some of these guys are announcing before the bowls. I just dont get why this is happening.
This isnt good, guys
This sport is wrecked.
Took a little while but they are implementing all the things that made college basketball awful
I think the NIL will get straightened out with the focus of keeping players from transferring instead of attracting new recruits. There will still be money for new recruits, but very few huge paydays like $1,000,000 for Ewers to go to Ohio State and make 3 handoffs in his career before transferring to Texas.
I hate the idea of the 12-team playoff, but it will probably be fine in the end.
At some point soon I think there are going to be a lot less bowl games.

I think we're gonna see some bowl games get canceled this year because of all the transfers and opt outs. The problem is that there are still enough bowl games out there that think they'll make money even if the teams are depleted. The only way bowl games go away is if people stop paying for flights, hotel rooms, and tickets to travel. It might take a while but it's going to happen at some point.

It is not that, it is the TV contracts. I think that is really the only way the lower tier bowls make money. A ton of those games have really empty stadiums.

How much of it is tickets and travel vs. TV revenue? I think some of these bowls still pull decent ratings even if the stadiums are half empty for most of them. I imagine the Holiday Bowl or whatever played on a random Tuesday night the week between Christmas and New Year's pulls substantially larger ratings number than whatever Tuesday programming ESPN or FS1 usually airs so that makes it worth it to them. I think that has a lot to do with the playoff expansion too. ESPN and Fox own this sport.
