Dan Petry and Mike Scott both worked complete games but the Houston ace was victimized by Chet Lemon who touched him up with a run-scoring double in the first, then blasted a solo shot in the sixth. Petry allowed just six hits an no walks while striking out six.
In the top of the eleventh inning, Denny Walling's fly out to right plated Dickie Thon from third providing the winning run as the Astros evened the series. Walling drove in three on the night to pace the Houston attack while Bill Doran scored three times and Kevin Bass twice and each homered. The tigers got two ribbies apiece from Kirk Gibson, Chet Lemon, and Alan Trammell.

The Tigers notched their third shutout in four games as Milt Wilcox worked seven innings before Aurelio Lopez and Sid Monge cleaned up with an inning apiece. Johnny Grubb hit a pinch-hit three-run bomb in the ninth off.....Aurelio Lopez to salt the game away.
Mike Scott pitched the Astros back into the series with an eight-inning, one-run gem to out-deul Dan Petry. The 'Stros got three hits from Kevin Bass and two ribeyes from Dickie Thon in the win.
Dave Bergman notched two hits, one a homer, scored twice, and drove in three runs in support of Jack Morris who worked 7.2 innings of one-run ball as the Tigers closed out the Astros in game six.
