Coming 2 America was fine. The CGI was irritating, but it was a fun, dumb trip down memory lane.
The Empire Strikes Back: After watching the first one with the boys a few weeks ago, we continued our Star Wars journey with the second/fifth/whatever installment of this little-known franchise. My preview is basically the same as the one I provided for Star Wars: It holds up a little better than I expected it to, despite the ridiculous old-fashioned special effects. But it's not nearly as good as you nerds like to think it is.
We might not be friends after this. Ok, I take that back--we can still be friends.

I believe I once ranked Star Wars as my #2 overrated thing in the history of things. It's fine, but I don't get all the crazy hype you guys put on it. Just my 2 cents. I still like you.

Well, that's just your opinion, man. I still like you too.

i watched tom and jerry with the kid as well. i was disappointed in the lack of itchy & scratchy violence. agreed the girl was attractive. i love in kids movies where the antagonist is irredeemably terrible the whole movie and then in the last 5 minutes they become pals with everybody. everything just tidies up all nice and we get an epilogue where everyone's having a great party together.
you're so wrong about ESB - that movie is great even if you turn it into a western or a mafia movie. maybe it fails as a rom-com.

ESB is a perfect movie. BD and I talk about this all the time.

It’s objectively a great story/plot so I see your point. The whole Star Wars... thing is just off-putting to me. Not sci-fi specifically, just the whole obsessive culture around this franchise. It rubs me the wrong way.

i agree with this taek. i just still like the movies in spite of it

TY. I did enjoy my viewing of the first 2, just not as much as you and Flush seem to enjoy them. It was the first time I'd seen them in probably 25 years. I've only ever seen the original trilogy, but will probably end up watching the whole thing with the kids now.

It will be interesting to read your take on phantom menace because I hated that movie the first go round but after repeat viewings (and with the ability to skip the stupid parts) it has improved in my eyes.
