Nocturnal Animals - really, really slow but interesting, especially Michael Shannon
The Good Girl - not all that great and semi-depressing, but still okay
Donnie Darko - really, really strange, need to see again to remember if I understood it
Southpaw - first of the recs on this list
End of Watch - really liked it
Spider-Man: Far from Home - low on the MCU scale but some good stuff
Prisoners - first of the hard recs on the list
Nightcrawler - yup, this was good
Everest - rewatchable that gets me every time
I really liked Nightcrawler and Zodiac. Spider Man Far From Home didn't do it for me at all. Jarhead was fine. I agree Day After Tomorrow was trash. I don't think I've seen any of the others.
I watched Neighbors on Friday night in honor of it being the movie of the week on The Rewatchables. Pretty funny. Kind of worked well because it had been so long since it came out that I didn't remember any of the jokes from the trailer. Everyone was funny, Rogen was actually the biggest weak link in the movie to me (and I usually like Rogen). I would recommend.
Looking back at my best comedies from each year list, looks like I had 22 Jump Street as the top choice for 2014 and I would easily still pick that, but Neighbors probably deserves at least a slight HM.
That was a pretty good flick, but I feel like maybe The Rewatchables is running out of gas.
It was a weird choice, given how many comedies are out there that they haven't done. If Neighbors hadn't been available to stream unedited from FXM, I would have probably skipped that one.
I Watched a movie this weekend that was shockingly good. Its called "Shot Caller", and it stars Jamie Lannister, Ghost from Power on Starz, and Cheddar Bob. Strong, strong rec. It is on Netflix, but is obviously not a Netflix original (bc it doesnt suck).
Yeah, that was pretty good shit...I think that I need to rewatch that, really enjoyed it.
I watched "I Care A Lot". It's about two really bad people battling with each other, quite different than most movies. I rec.
Watched this over the weekend. This movie is truly fucking awful, but I liked it. Remember how much you hated that chick when she played the miserable cunt in Gone Girl? She's even less likable in this. Honestly, I can't think if a movie character I've ever hated more than her. The basic premise for the plot is semi-believable I guess, but nothing that happens makes any sense. I realize it's a movie and it's not supposed to be real, but other than the eventual "hero" absolutely nobody in this movie acts in a way that I could picture any real life human being acting. There are holes in this plot that seem big even compared to dong's mom. Throughout the entire movie, my wife and I just kept saying, "Oh, come on!" to each other.
Seriously, this movie blows. But you know what? I was entertained the whole damn time, and the ending was satisfying. So congrats Netfix, you did your job I guess.

She just won a Golden Globe last night for that performance and thanked the American legal system for being so screwed up that this movie was possible.
Thanks, Dong!
Glad that you enjoyed the awfulness, it seemed to be kind of the point, I think.
Isn't it a little racist to call it Black Friday? - Joy Behar

It probably was the point, I guess. I found it frustrating to watch, but in an entertaining way. So I guess it's fine.
Mostly I was just disappointed to learn that "I Care a Lot" wasn't a biopic about me.
Coming 2 America was fine. The CGI was irritating, but it was a fun, dumb trip down memory lane.
I almost watched this but decided I want to rewatch the old one first. If I've even watched it in its entirety, it was like 20 years ago. I'm sure I've seen the whole thing in pieces, but can't recall actually watching it start to finish. Cool story, mj.
I have viewed a few film pieces in the past week-ish:
The Empire Strikes Back: After watching the first one with the boys a few weeks ago, we continued our Star Wars journey with the second/fifth/whatever installment of this little-known franchise. My preview is basically the same as the one I provided for Star Wars: It holds up a little better than I expected it to, despite the ridiculous old-fashioned special effects. But it's not nearly as good as you nerds like to think it is.
Tom & Jerry: My children LOVED this, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's retarded, but in a fun way. Also, Hit Girl grew up pretty nicely IMHO. She wore a skirt for much of this film, and she has really nice legs that I enjoyed viewing.
Flora & Ulysses: Another children's offering, available on Disney+. It's about a little girl who rescues a squirrel from being murdered by a vacuum cleaner, and then discovers the squirrel has super powers. It was cute. The kids liked it.
The King of Staten Island: IIRC Greg said he didn't like this. I have to make sure I agree with him on everything or else he makes me sleep outside usually have similar comedic interests to him, so I was skeptical going in. And it started out slow and seemed like it was gonna be really dumb. But you know what? I ended up kinda liking it. I thought all the scenes with Burr and Davidson together were very funny, and Ol Freckle Tits' mustache was absolutely hysterical. It's a little all over the place at times, but I was entertained. Marisa Tomei is still holding it together-ish, and Apatow's daughter is pretty easy on the eyes if you ask me (she was super awkward looking as a teenager in This is 40, so I didn't see that coming). This movie is downright watchable.
