A few of the Facebook umpire groups that I'm a member of (I haven't posted since I "retired" from umpiring) are super sensitive about members being critical of other umpires. It makes me laugh every time Angel Hernandez fucks up and nobody says a word because they'll get banned. He's the worst, Jerry.
Why is everyone whining about this call? Seems legit to me. There are worse calls every week. Sorry for the opinion.
Ahh, the good old days before replay challenges. Jim Joyce took a lot of shit for that and he's one of the good guys in the pro umpire world. I saw an interview with him where he almost cried because he felt so bad about denying the perfect game.

Yeah, he was always a highly rated umpire and players and managers liked him.
I saw this entire game on a flight. I know umpiring is a tough job, but I have no idea how he missed this one. It looked like an easy call. Also, I think given the moment if it is close the umpire would lean toward calling the runner out.
