What happened to the shoutbox being on top? I know PJ said he liked that better, and I think I did too. Mayhaps a poll on this? Or does anyone give a shit? UEM: Feel free to just pull the dictator card and ignore the poll results, but I'll throw it up anyway.

If it appears on the top of one screen, it will appear on the top of all of them and I'm not sure that there is anything that I can do about that.

I'll go with whatever you guys vote for, just wanted that information out there.

Also of note, any of you have any technical skills and willing to help build this a little more? There are just some coding type things that I really don't understand.

ETA: Specifically, it will take someone who understands coding a bit more than I do in order to get the shoutbox set up on the right side

That's a good call out. I like it at the top on the home page, but I also do like the feature that the shoutbox is always visible even when you're in a thread, and in that view I think bottom makes mor sense. If it's all or nothing, I may prefer top.

It's been a long ass time since I've done any website coding, but I do have some coding ability and would be willing to try to help out if there's not a more qualified/willing candidate out there.

Working on shoutbox privacy. I can't quite find the right place to put the "If member" code, but I'll figure it out. I agree it should be private. No need for MEW to see what we're saying about her.

Regarding auto-refresh of the shoutbox. I couldn't find a specific setting or related code but here is a comment on the ProBoards help forum from an Admin:

The shoutbox does auto-refresh. The longer you spend on the page the longer the gap between auto-refreshes. Eventually the shoutbox stops trying to auto refresh once the time reaches a certain point. This is to prevent excessive data consumption from occurring if the user leaves a browser tab with the forum open and say, walks away from their computer for hours or days.

Another Admin in a different thread:

The shoutbox should refresh automatically so long as you're participating in it. If you're not actively sending messages in the shoutbox it'll refresh at a slower and slower rate as time goes on. If you don't participate in the shoutbox at all on your current page load it won't refresh at all until you either post in it or click on its refresh button, after which it'll start doing it automatically as previously described.

I was just coming in here to post a very similar comment I found on the same help forum.

The shoutbox will automatically refresh so long as you're participating in it.

The less you participate in it, the less frequently it refreshes up until it stops completely and you have to refresh it manually until your next page load.

Imagine someone walking away from their computer for hours or days and leaving a browser tab open to this forum? a1a1 25

If you switch to the full desktop site you can see and use the shoutbox. Bottom right of the screen is a link to "Desktop"
