Independence Day was solid but Bill is sometimes borderline unlistenable on shit.
Asking if Independence Day was the first time computer viruses were used in a movie was fucking peak Simmons just throwing out dumb shit to see if it stuck.
“Sometimes.”
mj: Van Lathan’s dad died. Cut him some slack, you monster.
and he's in therapy, i don't know if you were aware, it never comes up
I will say - it seemed like there was no energy on the Independence Day Pod. Shea didn't seem excited, etc.
All Rewatchable eps with Fennessey are better than any without him.
Peak pod is Fennessey and Ryan shitting on Simmons right before Fennessey then shits on Ryan. They have fun.
I kind of think the reason for this is because Chris Ryan/Fennessey are higher up at the ringer and don't feel bad giving bill shit for his terrible takes.
You can tell Fennessey just does his homework though too. I honestly wish that guy was on more pods.

Maybe pitch him a podcast with the two of you. That has always worked out well for you in the past. Good Luck!

Fennessey knows substantially more about movies than any of the regular staff. Ryan's opinion may be the only one that he respects.

I thought Fennessey was going to leave when Lathan had his Francis Ford Coppola take.
The Boyz N the Hood podcast was funny as it was noticeable that Simmons and Fennessey were both being very careful in their comments.

i haven't listened to this podcast in many years. i saw they did a fight club one this week and was like "sure, i finished PMT, i'll listen to this." Simmons is unlistenable for me now unfortunately. i forget the guy's name he's got on the show with him this time but he is just spouting 90s malaise theories the whole time. they occasionally touch on something actually interesting like Pitt & Norton being the only people who thought "i haven't been fucked like that since grade school" was funny, but immediately pivot right back to trying to place FIGHT CLUB in it's proper historical context. It's Fight Club guys.
Maybe i'm just way behind and that's what this show always is? Anyway, woof.

Chris Ryan is the other guy on that one, I think.
You will want to look for any that includes Sean Fennessey, he shits on Simmons every 'cast basically
anyway, yes, yoke, a solid 75% of these have turned into "well this will/won't fly in today's world because wahhh someone would be offended" (note: the wahhh is my editorializing, they're earnest)
I thought the whole "how it ages" thing to be somewhat interesting with Fight Club just because it's not like "oh they said naughty words they could never say now" like it usually is.
It's one of my favorite movies ever and I'm only about 20 minutes in (I just got to the story about "Haven't been fucked like that since grade school", which was hilarious) and I'm fairly whelmed so far.
Agreed Fennessey in the pod with those two usually makes it better.
I listened to the Fight Club one. The pod itself was nothing special, but it made me want to watch the movie again so I guess it did its job.
Circling back to the earlier shoutbox discussion... I didn't realize that Woodstock 99 doc everyone was talking about is a Ringer production. Bill had a few whiny comments about angry white guys when he brought that up early in the pod.
And one random thought about his inability to pronounce names. I'm not sure I actually know the correct pronunciation, but I'm pretty sure he pronounced Jared Leto's name as lay-to, lee-to, and letto in one single pod. Impressive stuff, really.
The Bodyguard is this week's choice. Excellent selection. I don't think there's a major movie I've thought about less since it came out than The Bodyguard.

They are doing The Bodyguard this week. Another one I will skip, because I did not see that movie and sotsg-famous Van Lathan is on the pod.
They said a long time ago they were going to do Bull Durham. I am not sure why that one hasn't been done yet, and I would like to listen to it.
