Did anyone here watch Dark Fate? Serrano on the Terminator pod and Van wahtever on the T2 pod both gave it a rec
I previewed it here before.....
Terminator Dark Fate - If you like your action movies to come with heavy-handed messages about immigration and womens' issues along with really, really bad CGI action scenes, this is the movie for you.
Coming To America was an enjoyable listen. Come for the discussion of an all-time classic, stay for Wesley Morris alluding to giving and receiving hand jobs in track pants.
Also, Simmons with a pretty funny moment. They were discussing how great all of the women in this still look, and the conversation went something like this:
Morris: Madge Sinclair (the Queen) still looks great! <pause> Actually I think she might have passed away. <awkward pause> Simmons: Well, I'm sure she'd look great if she was still with us.
The Godfather ones are good. I enjoyed the Terminator and T2 ones. Too many comedies they devolve into "oooh that's problematic now" when shut up, is it funny? yes? great
I have been enjoying these podcasts. There are probably about two dozen, or slightly more that I will want to listen to.
Some observations:
It is funny the things Simmons gets wrong and can't keep straight. In The Perfect Storm one he kept saying the name of the bar, "The Crow's Nest" wrong. Also, in the Top Gun one he kept saying it was a commercial for the Marines, instead of Navy. His podcast partners let it go the first few times, but at some point they feel they have to correct him.
Mallory Rubin is thirsty. If she was hotter, she would be a fun person to date:
This is one of her best pictures online:
Almost all others are worse, much worse.
Ryen Russillo has a lot of unresolved anger issues. He is still bothered that he was not in the title of "The Scott Van Pelt Show" on ESPN radio. He was on The Town rewatchable, which was a really good episode.
Simmons has a lot of interesting stories. Some could say it is name dropping, but I always want to hear them.
Random thing that was pointed out on the Commando pod (which I enjoyed)--major difference in 80s movies vs modern action movies in how much ammunition is used to kill people. 80s movies, dudes would take 20 shots and go flying backwards, now it's all about the efficient one shot to the head. Also, the discussion about every 80s action movie requiring a nude scene was funny.
I legitimately had no idea that Michael Mann made a movie called Thief. I skipped that one.
Chris Ryan and Shea Serrano did a nice job of keeping Bill out of zany territory.
Simmons did a nice mj impression: "You know what Predator needs? A scene with everyone at a steakhouse."
He is good for 2-3 of those per 'cast and Chris Ryan does the absolute best job of rolling with those and trying to move the conversation forward. Unless Fennessey is on with him, then they both laugh at the absurdity. It's pretty fun.
Isn't it a little racist to call it Black Friday? - Joy Behar
I have listened to the most of the ones I had interest in, and now I am taking a second cut at ones that I had some interest in but skipped the first time.
That leads me to the one I am listening to now. Fatal Attraction.
It is interesting, but the thing that struck me is their discussion that this movie would have to be changed today because it paints Glenn Close as a crazy person and since she is a woman it is misogynistic and does not appreciate her mental health issues appropriately.
I mean really? This is where we are at. Great job, 79.
The Goodfellas Rewatchables is over 2 and a half hours long.
I listened to the first 30 minutes on my morning commute. Pretty good.
i listened to the whole thing. one of simmons's sidekicks kept saying how he uses quotes from the movie irl for seemingly every situation. kind of bizarre imo.
