Aren't there more people involved than just ESPN? Like, don't the teams have to agree to play each other or something? And why does interstate HS football even exist? Play the teams in your area like normals, please.
Interstate HS football and basketball exists for ESPN to hype up incoming college recruits. UEM knows what I mean.

Yeah, I'm not sure how it works other places but here you generally sign a 2 year contract to play someone (so each team gets a home game). And they played last year. But I don't understand how ESPN signed off.
As to your interstate point, I'm gonna completely agree Wolf with one caveat--if you're a town on a border, it makes some sense to play a rival across the border instead of going further out to play someone in-state. Like, Ardmore High in Alabama is literally on the AL/TN line, so them playing a Tennessee school 10 miles up the road would make sense instead of 50 miles into Huntsville. I don't get a FL/OH match-up
What I mean. I see an 0-6 team and then I see that no big name prospects are coming in, I'm saying "uhh, no. They beat you 56-6 last year, we want something competitive."
How about this: ESPN scheduled it knowing this would happen and people would talk about it.
How else would anyone even know they show HS games?
ESPN actually has next to nothing to do with it. The game are contracted through a company called Paragon.
Part of this mess comes from a lot of these type of teams popping up who are not coached by teachers / experienced coaches. There are "academy / religious" schools that are being taken over by Pop Warner coaches who convince kids who played for them when they were 12 that their way into college is by coming through these "schools" that play national games for "exposure".

So the local little league is trying to have a 13-16 girls fall softball team in the hopes that in the spring they can expand from basically being done at 12 and having more teams.
My twin daughters were done playing at 12 because that was the age cut off. I got them to play bc I knew I could coach because no one else will want to.
So I am the coach of the 13-16 team. Except, I have ten players. 3 are 11, 4 are 13, and 3 are 14. My twins are 14 and the 3rd girl has never played softball before.
So we aren’t good. This league has no standings and no playoffs. Every game is a glorified scrimmage.
There are 3 other teams. I spoke to the coaches before the games and explained we are young and we don’t really have any pitching. Teams 1 and 2 both played the “right way”. They both ended up winning roughly 16-6. When I say the right way I mean they stopped stealing and stopped taking extra bases.
Then we played Saturday. Looking back, their female manager tipped me off with her intentions. I said I only had 8 girls could they give us one. She said sure. I said do you want when we get to the 9th spot that it’s an automatic out. She said, only if you are winning! Found that odd. Then she mentioned she had a really good pitcher who she was going to have pitch just one inning…..but maybe more if you are winning!
Every time they got a runner on, they stole 2nd, stole 3rd and stole home. Every time. It was 12-3 in the bottom of the third and they bring in their best pitcher who was probably 16. I have never seen a girl throw this hard. Everyone on my team was scared to bat. Their own catcher asked their manager could she find someone else to catch because she was afraid to get hurt. Of course my two daughters led off the inning. I told them to stand as far away from the plate as possible and not worry about swinging.
My uncle is the 3rd base coach. He wanted to say something to the other team that he had safety concerns about putting a girl like this into pitch but the umpire correctly wouldn’t let him. I thought of pulling my team off the field out of concern for their safety. Had she hit one of these kids they would have gotten hurt. Their parents were encouraging her to “bring the heat”. I thought my uncle and I were going to brawl with them. I’m not even kidding.
We get through the inning with no one hurt. 12-3 top of the 4. Mercy rule is 15 runs after 4, 10 after 5. Max is five runs an inning so we will have to at least play 5. I put my daughter R into pitch. She’s never pitched before. I wanted to make a shit show out of all of it and I know she wouldn’t get upset. Unfortunately she is mildly athletic and was able to throw some strikes. Bases loaded no one out they hit a fly ball to the LF (who is the girl they gave us!). It goes over her head and their male 3rd base coach nearly tore his rotator cuff waving all 4 girls home. They are now up 16-3. Next girl walks or gets a hit. Steals 2nd, steals 3rd and then steals home. To make it 17-3.
I replace my uncle as 3rd base coach and spent the next two innings, every chance I got, staring at all of their parents. No, I wasn’t going to fight anyone but if they said something to me I’d ask them what exactly they think they are accomplishing by playing this way.
But if one of them would have hopped the fence at me I would have beaten the shit out of them.

Lotta garbage from those coaches. I can get sending the girl on the home run. Maybe it was her first one. Kids get fired up for that. The stealing and extra bases is bush as fuck. I don’t have a problem w that girl throwing an inning.
My kid is playing fall ball this year and I refused to coach. Get to sit w the other parents and shut up. I’ll just talk to my boy after about stuff. It’s funny, my dad is there and we fight because I just want to see good baseball and the boy get some swings in, and he gets mad I don’t care about winning. I bitched to him when the boy walked to lead off the game, and he got pissed at me. “That’s what a lead off hitter is supposed to do!” No shit. But walks suck in fall ball.

did you say anything to the coach after the game?
i was on the fence about the girl pitching the inning. It was unnecessary but I don’t think it’s my place to say who they can and can’t have pitch. I was definitely concerned for the girls who had to bat against her though.
As far as the home run……you have a point BUT it was basically a routine fly ball that their girl who they gave us misplayed. I wouldn’t have sent them but that’s me.
When you factor in the steals, the girl pitching, the home run etc it was all too much.
I didn’t say anything to the coach after the game. We play them again on oct 17th. We are supposed to play them again the last game of the year the first weekend in November. There is zero chance I play that game.
My oldest is playing fall ball for the first time. He's on the cusp between our Minors and Majors division; played 2 years of Minors and he's old enough to try out for Majors (9-12 year olds) next year or can play one more year of Minors (7-10 year olds). There's a pretty significant gap in ability/seriousness between the 2. Frankly I don't think he's good enough to move up, but I also don't know how much more he's gonna learn/develop in the lower level. My chums with slightly older kids all said they used Fall Ball as a readiness gauge. It's Majors-age kids, but more casual than the full Majors season so they make sure everyone still gets the same playing time, etc. My kid is definitely the worst fielder on the team, and probably a bottom-3 hitter. But after one game the coach came up to me and said, "Did you say you were thinking of holding him back next year? He looks ready for Majors. I'd move him up in the spring." So we'll see.
He's hitless in 4 games so far, but has put the ball in play a few times. These kids throw WAY harder than anything he saw in Minors, so I'm happy to see him just putting the bat on the ball. Yesterday he went 0-2 with a walk and nearly beat out an infield single. Made a play at 3B, which was a nice confidence booster for him. He also got thrown out stealing 3rd by like 10 feet to end the game, which was sort of humorous. They were down by like 8 and it's a 5 run limit per inning anyway, so the game was over and the coach sent him just to see how he'd react. He didn't seem to care about getting thrown out, so there's that.
There was a 12 year old girl on the team we played yesterday that was about my size and threw harder than any boy I've seen in this league. She was quite intimidating. After P1 had jumped out of the way of strike 3 against a soft-throwing fmaggot earlier in the game, I was happy to see him stand in there and not be scared of this girl. He took a 4-pitch walk.
