Did I hear correctly that a goalie of ours died when he got shot in the chest with a firework while in a hot tub?
if i've pieced it all together, they said first he fell and died of head injury, looks like now, he was in a hot tub with others and someone there went to set off a mortar firework, it tipped over aimed at the hot tub, they all scrambled out of the tub, he got shot in the chest by the mortar and fell on his head, either one will get you

The article I read was extensive internal injuries from the blast of the explosion, sounded like he basically had no external injuries.

I rehired John Davidson as my President of Hockey Operations. I wish he could bring Bread with him.
I have a busy summer:
1. Hire a coach
2. Decide which goalie to trade: Goalie Elvis or Jonas. I think I want to keep Goalie Elvis.
3. Sign Seth Jones to an extension.
4. Decide what to do with Patrick Laine.
If things go wrong it is going to be a bad couple of seasons for sure.
Mj, does this help clear up the Blue Jackets goalie room?
It is a crazy and sad story. At first they blamed the head injury on the fall scrambling out of the hot tub, and now it seems like the mortar to the chest killed him.
No, I still have to trade Goalie Elvis or Jonas. I think this goalie was thought to potentially be the backup goalie with the chance of being a starter a few years down the road.
Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins says his teammate Matiss Kivlenieks "died a hero" after saving him and his pregnant wife from the errant fireworks blast that killed the 24-year-old.
"He saved not just many lives, but when it happened, I was standing 20, 30 feet back of him and I was hugging my wife," Merzlikins said at Kivlenieks' memorial service Thursday in Upper Arlington, Ohio. "He saved my son, he saved my wife, and he saved me."
The CBJ signing the best free agent available shocked the NHL. It appears the real reason is due to so many teams having bad salary cap situations. The CBJ was one of the few teams that could make the signing work. Even then, they have to dump some salary at some point.
I guess he hated Calgary because he turned down a better offer there. Same with New Jersey. I think he wanted to go to Philly, but BSMB didn't want to deal with the salary cap headache so he never really made an offer.
