first time I heard his actual quote. Nothing wrong with what he said. Nothing wrong with looking forward to being married and having a family over your career.
Whoever the blonde next to her is was being a cunt. He didn't say anything like "Women have to stay home and have babies" which is what she seemed to be implying. Her whole angle basically seemed to be saying that he's telling people how to live. No he isn't; he's talking about what his wife did and saying that a lot of the broads in the room are looking forward to being moms more than they're looking forward to working. That's such an unbelievably tame and normal opinion that isn't even expressly religious.
My other beef is with invoking Kaepernick and saying that somehow what he did is even more OK than what Butker did because he's lifting up a whole group of people or whatever. I forget the exact line, but it was retarded. I'm not nearly as anti-Kaepernick as I used to be, but he quite literally used his place of employment as a stage to make his own personal/political stance in front of a national audience. Butker is making a speech in private, in no way affiliated with or representing the NFL or the Chiefs, and he's talking to like 500 people who almost certainly share most of his views on religion, family, etc. It's absolutely insane to think this is even remotely unacceptable.
I have my issues. He should be able to say what he said, but fuck that guy. Talking about "pride month" being a deadly sin, women are being told diabolical lies about promotions and titles, careers, and that most of you just want to get married and have kids. Fuck off. He has the life he has today because he's a pro athlete and is rich enough that his wife doesn't have to work. Her dreams of having a career may not have come true, but she's happy about it--of course she is, she's married to a pro athlete.
It wasn't a private speech, it was a school commencement address. Maybe that's splitting hairs [/31] but it's not just him telling his buddy his own personal beliefs. He's absolutely addressing the public, and he can't be shocked by it coming out. It also is very much a religious speech--basically the entire speech is claiming that priests aren't being Catholic and religious enough. Regardless if they agree with it or not, it's not just some random throwaway. The entire speech is 100% framed as religious even if he's just pointing his wife's example.

Isn’t it a very religious school? I never heard of it before but that’s what a lot of the Twitter commentary seems to be saying. I would think a religious speech in that context makes sense.
I didn’t see what he actually said about pride month, but oddly that doesn’t seem to be the one that I’m seeing most people mad about. I don’t know why that would have anything to do with a commencement speech and it certainly sounds more hateful/hurtful than his comments about women IMO.
I absolutely agree with you about his wife being able to live that life because her husband is rich. But I really didn’t think his comments came across as “women should stay home and be moms” even if that’s what he believes. I think the “diabolical lies” he’s talking about are the increasingly common push for women to forego marriage/motherhood because it’s empowering or whatever. I didn’t think he was telling anyone they shouldn’t want to work; he was telling them it’s still ok to prioritize “traditional” women’s roles.
It is a very religious school. If it was a historically black university it would be ok to tell them to kill whitey? And again, my point was that it wasn’t private speech. I have more sympathy for trump’s “grab em by the pussy” claim than to somehow claim this was private.
I frankly don’t care that much about what other people are outraged about.
His comments re his wife were very much she didn’t obtain her professional dreams but she’s happy about it. That’s great for her, most people don’t get that luxury.
Long story short, I hope he misses a million kicks but that’s because he’s a Chief. I don’t like him because I think he’s a smarmy fuck. He shouldn’t lose his job. But he also can’t claim outrage that he’s being criticized for a public speech even if the speech is to a receptive audience.

Has he actually claimed outrage that he’s being criticized? And did he claim that his beliefs should be legislated and forced upon people?

No, that was unfair to Butker. To my knowledge, he hasn’t complained about the criticism, which good for him. I don’t know why the legislated part matters to what I said-I believe he deserves criticism but he’s entitled to his opinion and like I said, shouldn’t lose his job over it.
“Private” was probably the wrong word choice. A commencement is obviously very different than a private personal conversation. My point was that I think this is different than Kaepernick because to the best of my knowledge he’s not trying to insert his personal beliefs/politics into football. He was asked to speak at a non-football thing, and in that speech he said things that he believes, to an audience that seems to have been receptive based on the applause you can hear in the video.
Whether you agree with what he said or not, it’s bonkers to think he should lose his job over having opinions. Which it sounds like we all agree on.
