In my lifetime, Iowa has had 2 head coaches. The rest of the B1G has had 105.
There's no way they fire Ferentz, right? Right??
I think he's earned the right to go out on his terms, but gotta figure he'll be pressured to demote or fire his son.
I actually think this is his last year, they let him retire gracefully and then suggest Brian takes advantage of his nfl connections and go work for Belichick again or something. Then they back up the cash truck for Mark Stoops. That’s my ideal.

Do you have any inside information on this or is this just a feeling? I know he has to retire at some point, but this surprises me for some reason.

I mean, he could also die while employed as the head coach. You ever think about that?

TBF, most of these guys die right after they retire as head coach. See Bryant, Bear.
No inside intel, it's just very clear that they aren't going to ever modernize their offense, Stoops is still gettable (of course, that was the hope in 1999 for Bob, ironically enough) and the fanbase is very agitated to waste this good of a defense. Plus, firing his own son seems off the table but he clearly can't do the job, either from a coaching standpoint or a recruiting standpoint or both. Maybe the compromise is to hook BF up with a job at New England or Baltimore to give him a graceful landing and then bring in another OC who will flop.
I haven't verified but I saw yesterday that the O/U of 31.5 is the lowest ever.
I imagine the preparation is different if the starting QB is the one who went 6/14 for 49 yards and 2 picks, or the QB that went 5/10 for 32 yards and a pick on Saturday.
