all I can think of is all the facts around Covid and it wasn’t the MAGAs who were suppressing that information
Agreed. I don’t think Rs in general would hesitate to bury shit that hurts them if they thought they could. The difference is the Dems have enough friendly folks in media and academia and such that they know they can get away with it right now. I hate them for it, but I have no illusions that the other side is a bunch of angels.

I never said they are and I agree with you 100%. The republicans at their core would love to get away with whatever they could, they are just held to a different level of scrutiny. Thats what makes the democrats incredibly dangerous
As a non-terrible person, may I attempt a more nuanced version of the point PJ so eloquently tried to make?
On some level, I agree with him that being trans is a form of mental illness. And “affirming” trans people is akin to just ignoring signs of said mental illness. A better analogy than cutters is anorexic people. If a skinny person believes they’re fat, you’re not supposed to agree with them. So if a man believes he’s a woman, why am I supposed to believe that? I know it’s not a perfect analogy because going along with the anorexia and enabling their behavior is directly hurting their physical health, and it doesn’t usually harm the trans person to let them live as whatever gender they want. But in both cases, we’re talking about a person whose own perception of what they are is different than the physical reality that everyone else can see. I know “mental illness” sounds mean, but I don’t know what else to call rhat.
Accepting that they have an altered perception of their own reality, being generally kind to them, not stripping them of rights, etc. shouldn’t mean that everyone else has to alter their own lives and give up rights to accommodate them. Want to wear dresses and change your name? Knock yourself out. But simply saying “I’m a woman” should absolutely not grant anyone access to female-only spaces. I’m sure the vast majority of trans people aren’t looking for a loophole to get into the women’s bathroom and rape people or whatever we’re supposed to pretend is happening every day to scare simple-minded people into being transphobic. But ignoring the real concerns expressed by lots of women just to avoid hurting the feelings of men who think they’re supposed to be women… I’m very much not ok with that. And I haven’t seen anyone make a sensible argument that even begins to change my mind.
