this movie is excellent, if you liked In Bruges, you'll enjoy this, only thing missing was someone screaming
I started watching it over the weekend. It's very odd, not what I was expecting.
Wherever they filmed it is the coolest area I've ever seen, though. It made me want to wander down to the local pub every day. Wait a minute.....
I don't know if it's actual Inisherin but it's at least some island off the coast of Ireland and yes.... my dream scenario is living somewhere quiet with a pub to walk to where everybody knows your naaaame, and they're always glad you caaaaaaaaame (like your moms)
Glass Onion, the new Knives Out sequel. Loved it. Thought the cast was excellent, for some reason Daniel Craig doing a weird southern accent was less distracting than in Knives Out. Just a really smart way to set up sequels, they can just keep doing whodunits forever.
My off-camera role was more prominent than I expected, too. Enjoyed that.
Took the kids to see Puss in Boots 2 today. We watched the first one that came out like 10 years ago this week in preparation to see the new one, and I was not enthused, the 2 youngest didn't make it more than 20 minutes through it. The new one....was tremendous. Legitimately great kids movie, IMO. They completely changed the style, the first one was kind of animated like Shrek and this one was almost more comic booky like Spiderverse (I assume they were going for a fairy tale book look?). In any case, if you've got to see a movie with kids, this one is a great one.
Also, there's basically no reason to watch the first one in order to follow this one.
I watched a movie on Netflix called Moneyball. Its pretty good, I had seen it once before. I forgot that Chris Pratt is in it. Chris Pratt and Brad Pitt in one film? Wow, I was wet. JK, I dont see how ppl say Pratt is a heart throb, hes just normal looking. People are idiots. When on screen with Pitt, its not close.
I liked Jonah Hill in this.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was annoying. like he is in every movie he ever did. What a ninnie.
This gay post was brought to you by myself and 31.

Because they're available on Amazon Prime, I decided to go through and watch the 3 Hobbit movies several years too late. I've caught bits and pieces but I never really got drawn in. Enjoyed the LOTR movies though so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Nerd alert incoming:
Pros: Ian McKellan as Gandalf remains basically perfect casting. Always good to have Gollum back as well. Martin Freeman is solid as Bilbo, believable as a younger version of Ian Holm. A few of the Dwarves are actually distinguishable, and the dude who plays Thorin is good. The guy who plays the Elf king guy is really excellent. I know she's just created for the movies, but I always enjoy seeing Evangeline Lilly. Once I actually buckled down and watched, the stories moved along pretty well.
Cons A ton of the dwarves are completely indistinguishable. You've got Thorin, the old wise one, the fat(test) one, the slightly taller hot one who wants to bang Evangeline Lilly, his brother...and the rest. A lot of the action is kind of dumb and somehow looks worse than the effects in the LOTR which came out years earlier? Completely CGI bad guy Orcs were both pretty lame. Smaug is kind of blah and it's funny that as much of a focus as he is of the story, his screen time is pretty limited. Legolas looks weird and definitely older (with a fatter face) than he did when he was in the original. There is ZERO need to have 3 3-hour movies made out of the Hobbit. Even using some of the background of the rise of Sauron stuff that's decent, it's still way too much filler for a kid's book. Goddamn Eagles always showing up when it's convenient for the plot.
Overall, I'm glad I watched them but I don't see myself revisiting them again like I do with the LOTR movies.
Enjoyed. Sexy Alien Girl is a really good actress, I don't feel like I had a lot of interaction with anyone in the movie except Fiennes previously. Funny flick, kind of suspenseful but not really, nice tight 90 minute-ish movie. Would recommend to basically anyone around here.
Finished All Quiet on the Western Front. Nice little light-hearted romp.
Seriously, how did anyone fight in that war without going insane? Trench warfare seems like the worst thing that humans have ever come up with, which is a pretty high bar.
They tacked on a storyline of the end of the war which was sort of interesting and a good juxtaposition from the main storyline, but also kind of felt like it was on there just to give the movie a full running time. The sniper from Inglorious Basterds is in this section and is the only recognizable actor in the entire movie. The cast is excellent though. There is some French and German thrown in but generally the movie is in English.
The book is one of my all-time favorites. They kept the core group of characters intact but IIRC, changed around the fate of the characters a bit. Which brings me to my nitpick:
{Ending Spoiler} Paul dies essentially as the armistice goes into effect at 11 am on 11/11, which I get why they picked it. The book is extremely anti-war and very much focused on the futility of war, and what better way to show that then to have a person get killed just as the war is ending. And then the front goes quiet. HOWEVER, I much prefer the end of the book, which takes place as the war is winding down but the day that Paul gets killed, it's just some random day with no fighting of consequence, so much so that Command receives a report that it's "all quiet on the western front." IMO, that's the more powerful and haunting way to show how meaningless an individual soldier's life is in war.
