Hey, I was on board with going after Stafford as well. You might disagree but I would've packaged CMC for Stafford. That's how much having an effective QB in the NFL means.
I Was surprised Goff got traded for Stafford and now I am surprised to read this post.
Isnt Stafford kind of thought of as an over-the-hill never was? Like yeah, good arm, but never did anything with the Lions.
Stafford's put up a ton of numbers in his career but outside of having MEGATRON for a few years he hasn't had much else around him.
The contracts for Stafford and Goff were pretty much equal so the swap made sense.

He put up numbers every year he was healthy, behind a generally shitty OL. Detroit just let him down over and over. Same thing might happen in LA, I'm not gonna go crazy about a win over the Bears, but he's for sure a big upgrade over Goff and Darnold.

I thought the Rams looked really good with him last night. I get what Flush is saying about including CMC in a package for him because a good QB > a great RB. But I don't think the Panthers are a QB away from bieng Super Bowl contenders or anything. As a casual observer, they seem like they're better off trying to figure out if a young guy is their future and not getting rid of their best player to maybe get a little better but still not be that good. If that makes any sense.

Idk, you are nowhere without a QB even if you are "close" everywhere else. Possible exception for the Saints. I would sell the farm for a top 5 QB every time.

Fair point. Is Stafford a top 5 QB? Discuss.
Agree with Yokel--you make that deal every time and plug in another RB since they have such a short shelf life. CMC will fall off a cliff in a couple years.
I'll address the Stafford question in the Romo Index thread.

I look forward to it!
Anyway, you guys have convinced me I think. I thought Stafford was like 36 so I wasn't really on board with giving up a huge haul for him if you don't have enough pieces in place to win soon. But at 33, he should have enough left in the tank to build a team around him and give you a decent size window to win. I'd have traded McCaffrey for him. Good talk.

i think my coaches may have seent some kind of weird weakness in the Saints offense. I have never seen so many corner blitzes. usually if you do that more than a couple times you end up paying dearly. Idk, maybe they just figured Jameis would be stupid and throw away from the direction of the pressure, which he did. Anyway, i am almost ready to say this team is good a year ahead of schedule. Thursday won't mean much win or lose against Houston, but then i have Cowboys, Eagles, Vikings. 4-2 or better and my expectations will shift from developing the new guys into winning this year.

The defense has gone against a rookie QB and Jameis (they had his number even when he was with the Bucs) so let's pump the brakes on them being good for now. But dominating the Saints just a week after they whooped the Packers is very encouraging. And if Darnold can limit mistakes this could be a really good year.

I would wait to see the Packers game tonight before valuing that Saints win. Rodgers could be screwing them over

Good point. If he is then it'll be amazing to watch the rest of the season.

The Panthers-Saints game was on the TV next to the Browns game at the bar I went to Sunday. Darnold looked better than competent. McCaffrey wasn't doing much early and they still had the lead.
Houston actually has talent. It was a tougher game than necessary for me to beat them. A 3rd string QB on a short week will help you.
