Bathroom Remodel over New Years
Before :
The before wasn't awful but the previous owners put this ugly fucking gigantic thick floor tile on their shower/tub combo and tub was far too shallow for our liking.
Demo Day : A fun process, actually didn't run into many snags here which was nice. Not an exterior wall so we didn't need to fuck with any insulation or vapor barriers which is always nice for a change. Subfloor was actually in good shape and very minimal mold. Did have to add a shutoff just in case we do any more remodeling so we didn't have to cutoff water to the whole house. Getting the tub out was the worst part, it was wedged in pretty good and real heavy. Had to sledge hammer it piece by piece, not ideal but not awful either.
New Tub installed, got the cement board up and RedGuarded it to make it all nice and waterproof. New tub is fiberglass soaking tub and about 300lbs lighter than the previous one.
Final: Tiled everything and then completed all the grout, got a little sloppy in some of the corners but with the silicone caulk we added last it looks pretty nice. Got all the plumbing fixtures together (really dig the detachable showerhead as it attaches magnetically). Works like a dream. Have to fix a fex things with the wall and add some paint/trim but the shower is done and ready to roll.

don't listen to these guys clit, that's a good job. i paid someone to do my kid's bathroom and my bathroom in 2019. it was a nightmare. they did not understand like you did that you cannot start pulling out fixtures without either shutting off water at the curb or installing a valve. Flooded my son's bathroom twice and my bathroom once. Anyway, it's expensive as hell to hire someone so i am impressed with your DIY.

Thanks, appreciate it. Having done 3 of them, this one was by far the easiest. Last one we had a square shower and we added giant glass doors to it. What a fucking pane.

I agree he did a good job, and that's not an easy DIY job at all. I just find it strange when someone remodels something and the before and after pictures are remarkably similar.

It is super similar, we opted for new tile but the biggest difference is the tub. We now have a soaking tub with a 19 inch depth which I guess we needed. Previous one was 10 inch depth. Wife wanted it, I don't argue. lol

Lul, nice.
we had a bricked in separate tub in our bathroom, original install by the homebuilder. Polubutylene pipes, so they were leaking at the joints. I cannot believe that thing didn't fall through the ceiling, it must have been 600 lbs sitting on rotting plywood.
