Bill O'Reilly had the same thoughts as me concerning the Biden interview with CBS News concerning opening public schools:
Biden told CBS before the Super Bowl that it’s time to reopen schools safely, which is true, yet Norah O’Donnell failed to question what the hold up is. Bill O’Reilly reacted citing that Catholic schools have been open for months and are doing fine:
“OK. Safely. Safe. We’ve got to open safely,” O’Reilly begins. “All Miss O’Donnell had to do is go, but Catholic schools all over the country are open and have been open since September and there hasn’t been any disaster. Isn’t that safe? What’s the difference between a Catholic school and the public school? This is like fundamental journalism that is no longer practiced in this country. This isn’t brilliance. You got to anticipate what Biden is going to say. Oh, yeah, I want to open them, but safely. Yeah. All right. But we already have a parallel track where there are thousands of schools open, private and Catholic, and there hasn’t been a problem. So, what’s holding you up in ordering the nation’s public schools to open? What is the hold up? We need ventilation. Do the Catholic schools not have the ventilation?
“I don’t know whether you get as agitated as I get, because this is the highest level, this is the anchor person of CBS News. Doesn’t get any higher than that over there. This is just, I’m going, it’s not a matter of harpooning Biden, it’s how much does the man know, how much does he know, he’s the president?”

I was unfairly harsh to you on this topic last time you brought it up. I agree with the basic premise, and I haven't read the articles anyway. I think there are public schools open in a lot of places, but I'm sure a much bigger percentage of private schools are open. I got bogged down in the semantics of the whole thing. The point is that there are thousands of schools open all over the country, so clearly there's plenty of proof that it can be done safely. So what the fuck is the hold up here, Joe?
I wonder how much our expectations have changed since 2015 with the things politicians promise. People loved or hated Trump because they knew he’d actually try and do the things he said he was going to do. Now to go back to the old standard of politicians just saying things on the campaign trail they know they’re not going to do....I wonder what the pushback will be from his voters.

Trump is not the best example. He did do or try some things he said, but on some of his biggest ones he did nothing:
1. Mexico has not made any payments toward the wall.
2. He did not try to repeal and replace Obama Care with something better.
3. He did not do anything to improve the country's infrastructure

Kinda hard to improve the roads when they're all blocked by protesters.
“Thank you for recognizing this teacher (Kaylin has her too). I just spent the past two hours redoing my plans for today. I recorded my lesson that I would have taught in person, provided guided instruction, posted videos, and independent practice. I know parents are frustrated. I get it. This is not easy on teachers either; especially when we don’t make any of the big decisions. We have faced nonstop criticism, yet many are working tirelessly. I worked all day yesterday. My contracted day ends at 2:50. I worked with a student and her mom until 3:45. I know the assumption is that teachers “aren’t working” however any student or parent can reach out to a teacher and ask for a Zoom or more direct instruction. We are directed to post asynchronous work. Again, thank you for recognizing this teacher. “

She meant 345 a.m., right?

Nope. She put in a full 55 minutes more than her contracted school day

"I worked all day yesterday. Till 3:45."
I absolutely believe that some - maybe even most - teachers truly do want to go back to school and are getting screwed by unions and admins making decisions on their behalf. I don't know this teacher in question, so I have no idea if she's being genuine here. But it's kinda hard to have any sympathy for someone who says, "I recorded a video, and then met a student in in the middle of the afternoon. We're working hard!"
Fairfax County schools are set to reopen classrooms for in-person learning this month, but thousands of teachers plan to continue working from home.
Fairfax County Public Schools plans to have students and teachers return to classrooms on February 16. However, 2,300 of the district’s 15,000 teachers many teachers will continue to instruct their classes virtually even while their students are physically present in the classroom.
Because of this, classroom monitors will be present in the classroom with children during class. So far, 645 classroom monitors have been hired, and the school district needs 205 more, Fox 5 DC reported.
2,300 teachers, by this point now with both shots of the vaccine, won't go back BUT they'll hire classroom monitors (who don't have to have the vaccine) to be in there.... I say give the monitors the teachers' pay and the teachers can get the babysitters' pay
also from the same article:
A study from the American Academy of Pediatrics offered the striking finding that among the 90,000 students and staff observed in the study who returned to in-person classes, there were zero instances of child-to-adult transmission within schools
