In the early days of Cowherd's ESPN radio show, he talked more college football than every other national radio show combined probably. I always appreciated that. The more famous he got the more awful he became.
yeah, i enjoyed listening to him close to 20 years ago when he knew CFB, but he did the Skip/Stephen A/Mike&Tony BS of hot taeks and condescension combined with blinding ignorance on most topics and a refusal to actually learn about 95% of the sports/athletes they're talking about. It's almost like ESPN et al should have stuck to the Baseball Tonight/NFL Live/etc. formats where hosts/experts who knew the sport/coaches/players spoke on that subject and that alone. Now, fuck it, buncha star fuckers who just want to rip on 90% of the stuff going on.
Weirdly this was my biggest issue of Deadspin right before it died--by the end DREW was one of the few people there that actually seemed like they enjoyed sports.

I've cut all this stuff out so this is all based on what i saw over 10 years ago/see in clips on twittah, but Wilbon (and lesser extent Kornheiser) was the worst with that, everything was "just stupid, the worst, cut it out" and acting like he just didn't have time to even think about or care about the stuff. We get it dude, you just want to hang out with MJ, Kobe, etc. then fuck off and do that. Why is this guy being asked to talk about football, baseball, hockey, golf, olympics, etc? Again, this is why NFL network, MLB network, NHL network have been great and are at the least better than anything ESPN shows that isn't games (outside of college gameday). They just get people who care about that sport and like it and talk about it. Fucking recreational activities here that we watch because they're fun and we're dumb. Stop shouting at me, telling me i'm stupid, and/or that it's a waste of your time.

I never listen to ESPN Radio and only watch live sports on ESPN except for College Gameday. However, the half-time shows during the NBA Finals were dreadful. I think both 79 and I noted in the shoutbox that Steven A. was screaming for no discernable reason. Just awful television.
