I'm not sure how that you would do it but tacking on the career stats seems fine. Saying the Josh now has season records when he doesn't have a year where he played in more than 69 games seems a bit off.

nice.
josh Gibson has the highest all time batting average, higher than Ty Cobb now.
So starting now all Negro League stats count along side major league stats?
Jesus Christ.
It doesn’t even make sense. Their accomplishments should absolutely be acknowledged and celebrated. And the best negro league players should be in the HOF and stuff. But it was a different league. This isn’t complicated, as they say. It’s ok to keep 2 different sets of stats for 2 different leagues that never played against each other, played a different number of games, etc.

So I looked into this a bit because this was what bothered me—apparently the “rule” is 3.1 plate appearances per game in a season to qualify. So I guess if the season was 50 games or whatever then he would only need 155 plate appearances to qualify. Of course, that was only really a consideration between 154 and 162 games, so it’s still weird. Jim mentioned Ty Cobb—what if in a 60 game stretch of the season, he hit .530? It’s definitely odd.
I bet mlb likes being able to say that Bonds doesn’t have the single season OPS record anymore.

it just seems like an over correction to appeal to……someone. Like the Guardians and the Commanders.
This is sort of a jumbled mess of progressive buzzwords and I feel like the second half of it contradicts what he started out saying, but I think he accidentally made the point that is ultimately how I feel about this... Merging the stats and treating them all as "major league stats" is kinda just pretending the Negro Leagues never happened. Like it or not, that's a part of baseball history. Tell their story in the right context; don't try to act like it wasn't a separate and distinct story that needs to be told.

why does everyone have to always try to impress everyone by using such big words.
Record keeping is shoddy. Unless you believe Satchel Paige had his infielders sitting in rocking chairs when he pitched. Let it be there records and their world. Josh Gibson might have been better than Babe Ruth but we didn’t let those no good spooks play back then. You don’t get to blend it now, dorks.
