So I had bid on some gym package at a silent auction a couple months ago, and got a 3 month free membership to the local gym here. Expired today so of course I waited until the last minute to sign up.
I'm sure I'll be ready to run a marathon after 3 good months on the eliptical.
kar: Tell me about it, paje. I do not have a Peloton but my health insurance just e-mailed to tell me that my policy now includes the app.1 minute
I have a Peloton, so 90% of what I do is on the bike, but I do use the app every once in awhile. I don't do any running, but I think its most popular for that. I don't know anyone who owns the Peloton treadmill, but I know a number of people who just run outside and use the app. I also think there are people who have a non-Peloton bike or use a regular bike at the gym and play the classes on their app. I would not be able to do that, because part of the appeal for me is seeing where I am on the leader board, plus I wouldn't be able to figure out how heavy to make the resistance or how fast to go without the actual Peloton bike.
What I mainly use the app for is strength classes. I have dumbbells (10s,15s,20s,25s,30s) and I do the strengths classes with them. If you are into something like that and its covered, you should try it out.

We have the app and use it with a non-Peloton bike. You have to get a device to measure cadence and you have to kinda figure out resistance, but it's possible to do bike workouts with the app on a non-Peloton bike.
Agree with paje about the other workouts though--there are stretching, yoga, core, strength, etc workout sections in the app.
And you also get the benefit of instructors saying stuff like this
Like I said in the box, I have it. I actually got the app before I got a (non-peloton) bike. I did some treadmill (non-peloton) bootcamps and some strength classes and then got a Bowflex bike. I use the mpaceline app to track cadence and resistance. You can overlay that on the class if you use an ipad. I just have it open on my phone and then cast to my tv (roku). I also do some strength classes. Check out the facebook group #hardCORE On The Floor. They have a calendar you can follow for strength, and people often post about good rides and stuff.
I actually like the app so much, I was thinking of getting the peloton bike. But then that would be $27 more a month.
Like, because of the monthly payment for the bike or because the app is more expensive if you're actually using a Peloton?

Once you buy the bike you're locked into paying more per month ($39 vs $12) if you want the live leaderboard stuff.
One of the Jeep Bros is a yoga instructor on the side (weird I know), he told me once that if you breathe through your mouth a lot during yoga you fart more.
