I found the article. There is a lot of bad stuff in it, but the last paragraph is really bad to me:
The “Merchant of Death” is a nickname, it’s not a descriptor of a superpower. He’s not a religious leader or political war hero. In Griner, the U.S. received a young great, still in her prime, with a larger platform and a new lease on life. The 8-time MVP, 2-time scoring champ, 2-time Olympian and 2-time Defensive Player of the Year award has been one of the WNBA’s most visible stars since being drafted first overall by the Mercury in 2013 and will have a larger megaphone than Bout will in Russia.

A young great, still in her prime? Like, as a basketbal player? Then why the fuck was she playing in Russia? I assumed she was washed up and that's why she was over there to begin with.
In any case, why the fuck does that matter? "The U.S. received a young great, still in her prime..." How the fuck is that important? She went to another country, broke their laws, and was rightfully arrested and imprisoned for it. Those laws are insane and she didn't "deserve" any of this, but anyone normal should be willing to let her sit in prison for 9 years if it means keeping a fucking international arms dealer off the streets. I don't care how good she is at basketball; and I sure as shit don't care what color her skin is and that she likes twats. She was released because she's famous, and Russia bent us over a fucking barrel and made us release an actual real life criminal in order to get her out. The whole thing is preposterous.

Its cuz she's a pawn for the 79s. Too bad the guy Paul Whelan is white and a marine, thus prob a republican vote.
This was the only deal though,. they say! Way to play hardball Joe. You fucking f*ggot
The Russian View Fox and Friends discusses the trade.
His (Whelan) first problem is that he is white," the moderator said, according to a translation obtained by Fox News Digital. "His second problem is he is a man. His third problem: He is a heterosexual.
"This is not something that can be forgiven today. It’s just a catastrophe. Yes, here Griner beats him in every aspect."

I cant believe they still run pieces like this. This one never even got to a point, there were no statistics to back up the premise. Just a poorly constructed article, pulling in NPR numbers of gender pay gap in general, which has nothing to do with this (or anything else as far as Im concerned).

Such a poorly written article. So many flawed statements.
The reason Brittney Griner is the sports story of the year, isn't solely because of her bravery while being "wrongfully detained" in Russia.
True, because she was not "wrongfully detained." She violated Russian law, and received a ridiculous punishment for that violation, but within Russia's laws. Maybe be real careful when travelling to foreign countries and not be the typical stupid American..
"The reality is, she's over there because of a gender issue — pay inequity," said Nneka Ogwumike, the head of the WNBA players union, in an April interview with ABC's Good Morning America.
"We go over there to supplement our incomes," she said, "and quite frankly, we go over there to maintain our game.
So it is not solely a pay issue. Got it.
Making more money, and being able to play more games, thus keeping her skills sharp in the off-season, is at the root of why Griner went to Russia. If you think she shouldn't have gone because of the danger, or shouldn't have brought vape cartridges into the country, you have to understand that the perceived threat that Russia presented for foreigners wasn't always the way it is now.
So she underappreciated the threat. Bad miscalculation.
It's even worse in the WNBA. The NBA base salary is over $5 million while the base salary in the WNBA is approximately $120,000. The WNBA says its top players can earn more than $700,000 with base salary, bonuses and other compensation.
The author doesn't know or understand that the NBA Salary Cap is a collectively bargained percentage of revenue. If the WNBA had a similar collective bargaining agreement, the WNBA players would be paying for the privilege of playing since they have negative revenue and the WNBA only exists because the NBA subsidizes it.

Yeah I recently heard something that if the WNBA had the same revenue sharing percentages as the NBA, each player would owe the league like 70K or something
Dunce's friend lives in Seattle and she loves womans sports. (no pic). Her posts about any of it are hilarious.
WNBA free agency right now is keeping me on my toes but is making me Storm green with envy for some of the signings and super sad to lose Stewie but I do understand it's a business and choices need to be made.
