I don't want to clutter up magnum's thread any further (but would certainly welcome your thoughts on this question, mags)... Greg's post over there about the furries in his HS retriggered a thought that I've had a lot. I know this isn't an original thought by any means, and maybe it's a bit rhetorical, but it genuinely makes me question where the line is with trans identities. If someone that's biologically male says they were "born in the wrong body" and are really a female, the belief on "that side" is that person IS a woman. Does this only apply to gender? If Balls believes he has a full head of hair, do we agree with him? If Kite believes he's skinny, do we support that belief? If someone says they were born in the body of the wrong race, is that cool? If my DNA says I'm human but I think I was supposed to be a horse, does society have to rearrange itself to indulge my feelings/identity?
The people of Kiteville HS should let those furries think what they want, but literally everybody knows they're people and not cats. Why is that different than someone that is a man and says they're a woman? Trans people should have the same basic human rights that everyone else has, and as long as you're not an asshole about it I'll even do my best to use the pronouns you want and all that fun stuff. But you are what you are. The idea that you are a woman is a belief in YOUR brain, but we all know you're actually not. If you believed you were a cat or a tree or a black person, we would rightfully call that a mental illness. It's perfectly acceptable to be mentally ill, but people should be allowed to point it out. I genuinely do not understand why transgender is different, and everyone is just supposed to pretend that reality isn't reality.
