I'm definitely not in the "grow forever" crowd or even the "take over for the dollar" crew, but I'm dabbling a bit to see if I can make a little.
It's a fucking roller coaster though.
Oh I definitely support dabbling in it if there's money to be made. I just don't get the people who are seemingly all-in on it being the future of money.
It sort of makes sense in a macro view...it's provably scarce, it's electronic so it fits the future economy of payment, and it is not bound to a government so you can use it anywhere globally. But the speculation keeps it from any actual monetary use, values for most of them are way too high to use in a regular transaction (like trying to use a gold bar to buy a coffee), so the only practical uses for it now are money laundering and speculation. Idk if that can ever change with the existing cryptocurrencies, I think another new one will have to be made and geared to practical use.
It’s a good idea in theory but I don’t believe in it at all as a viable way forward. Prepper Bros are all into it as an apocalyptic currency, but I don’t think an apocalypse would be kind to electricity and the internet. But what do I know.

Yeah I feel like if there’s ever a real need for whatever the preppers are prepping for, magic invisible coins are gonna be even harder to spend than they are now.

Despite having dabbled with a small investment, I still don't understand how I can buy stuff with them.

Seems like an important piece of the puzzle. Good luck.
another question... can you cash out at some point? Like is it easy to just sell what you have and turn it back into normal money that you can use for stuff? I get the impression that they make that hard.

Short term liquidity doesn't sound like something you'd be interested in if you're looking to invest in crytocurrency imo.

The mall near here has a cryptocurrency ATM in it so... apparently it might be?

That's a good question. I haven't tried to sell any but the app that I use has that option so I don't think that it will be much of a problem.
Worst case scenario would be me transferring the bitcoin to offshore gambling site and cashing out from that.
I'll probably ride this coaster until near the end of the year and re-evaluate where we are at that point.
As we speak, I'm up $1200 but 36 hours ago, I was up near $1600. Wild ride, man.

it's pretty easy to hop in and out into different currencies. part of why it's such a draw to money launderers.

TY, that makes sense. I don't know why, but I just get the impression that all these people pushing it are acting like you're just supposed to keep buying it forever with no exit strategy.

I think that is because the major money people behind it keep pushing people to just keep buying it forever with no exit strategy

Yeah that's how bubbles work...if only there was some way to know when it was going to peak. Thing's "popped" like 10 times and come back to new highs every time. Wild stuff
