Smith is Meyer’s top quarterback product in terms of staying power in the NFL, after playing for him at Utah from 2003-04. Since then, Meyer’s college quarterbacks include Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones and Dwayne Haskins — none of whom are currently on an NFL roster.
I thought Cardale Jones had the skills to be an NFL QB, but his history at Ohio State, never going to class, playing video games, unable to beat out Barrett suggested otherwise.
I am shocked that Haskins is pretty much already done. I thought he had a legitimate chance to be good in the NFL.
Meyer's offense depends on the QB running a lot. He is going to have to change that in the NFL.

Urban loves to run his QBs (at the college level), so there is something to that criticism, however:
Chris Leak - Didn't have NFL arm Tim Tebow - Accuracy issues, MAYBE he could have become something, but 3-4 NFL teams tried and he just didn't seem to have it Braxton Miller - Injured arm prior to senior year J.T. Barrett - Didn't have NFL arm Cardale Jones - Didn't have NFL head Dwayne Haskins - Up in the air, I guess, seems to be a head case if leaks from Football Team's camp are to be believed
I fail to see how "Wins at the college level with guys who aren't good enough to play at the next level" is a knock.
The part of the knock that I don't get is that it's not really the head coach who is developing the QB at the pro level. I guess that maybe Andy Reid gets that designation, but it seems it is much more about matching your offensive system to the best talents of your QB.
Meyer is smart enough for that and will plan for it. The question about him, for me, is seeing how all his mind games work or don't work at the pro level. Didn't go well for Saban or Kelly.

Yeah, was Urbs job to win college games or develop NFL qbs? Now...someone should have negative recruited him on that, and maybe they did and that's why the list gets progressively worse, but I don't think this means he'll be a bad nfl coach. Coaching the jags will make him a bad nfl coach.
However, I think he was only a 3 star recruit when Urb signed him, and most of his staff was apparently against it. Only Urb at Ohio State really saw his potential. So some credit?
