It's difficult to believe that they got Christian Bale and Russell Crowe into the MCU and used them so poorly. I think that I've had enough of director Taika Waititi's style. It's fun once and once only.
Natalie Portman is still enjoyable to gaze upon.
yes bale one and done and Russell Crowe just a fat boy.
Saturday evening I was scrolling Twitter on the couch, got up to get a beer, came back and there was something on TV. I looked back at my phone for a couple minutes, and my wife says, "Are you watching this? I put it on for you." First of all... what? I assumed you were watchign one of your doctor shows or something, since I never said anything about a movie, and certainly didn't request a specific one, but I'll play... what is it? "It's called the Watchman." I figured maybe she meant The Watchmen, which I've seen and enjoyed before, but I can't imagine any scenario where she would have intentionally selected that.
So I put the phone down, immediately notice that I absolutely don't recognize this movie at all, and then maybe a minute later the opening credits displayed the movie title: The Marksman. Good job, good effort. Anyjizz /Joe List this is I believe a Netflix original, starring Liam Neeson as an ex-marine operating a barely-surviving cattle ranch in some Arizona border town. He encounters a mother and child trying to flee from the cartel through his land. A gun battle ensues; the mom and one of the cartel guys are killed; and he's left to fend for the kid. His hot stepdaughter is a border patrol agent, so he enlists her help initially but then realizes the cartel will kill the kid if he doesn't take matters into his own hands. So he spends the rest of the movie trying to get the kid to safety. The cartel guys, meanwhile, never saw Taken apparently so they chase him halfway across the country trying to avenge their fallen brother. You can probably piece the rest of it together.
It was entertaining enough, but the plot had some holes the size of LDOT's mom. Soft rec if you're desperate to watch something, but please temper your expectations.
Who What was she doing while you watched the movie?
Stayed up and watched Prey last night. Would recommend. Solid Predator flick. I don't think I've seen any of the sequels except 2 (nice tie in to this one), but this was better than 2. Not near the original but didn't expect it to be. Moves along, nice crisp hour and 40 minutes or so. Some cool details about the Predator being less advanced than in the Arnold ones, makes the fight a bit more fair.
Watched The Talented Mr. Ripley for the first time since the theater. Liked it better on a rewatch, found it pretty slow IIRC when I saw it when I was younger but it definitely held my attention more this time around. One of the best casts ever, the only thing that threw me off was (spoiler for 30 year old movie):
{Spoiler} I started watching it on Monday night and got to the scene where PSH gets killed, and I thought "well it's late but I"m almost to the end, I'll finish up."...There was still an hour left of the movie!
Tonight I watched an old comedic film that I’ve never seen and IIRC is a favorite of out old pal 31 - Back to School. I have a theory that most movies from the 70s and 80s actually suck and people only lie them because of nostalgia, and if you see them for the first time now they’re hot wet garbage.
I stand by this belief and think it’s true more often than not, but I kinda liked this! It’s unbelievably cheesy in every possible way, but it’s entertaining. Just classic Rodney, with a bunch of lines that felt like they were right out of his old standup bits. I laughed a bunch of times, and they threw in some gratuitous tits for good measure. All in all, 96 minutes well-spent.
A guy from work liked Nope. I wont see it either way (nothing will top the Fuck The Police nwa scene in Us), but just another perspective
Now that it's available for streaming (can rent through Amazon, although I totally recommend going to the theater) - go watch Nope! I thought it was incredible

Is that by the Key & Peele guy? The same one that made that Get Out movie that everyone had to pretend was good because racism?

I liked Get Out and really liked Us. I will likely see Nope at some point and will probably enjoy it. Because racism.
I don't know if it was truly a race thing like they did with Black Panther where you were racist if you said it was just OK, or if it was more "hey, the sketch show guy did a thing that's a different genre! Isn't that neat? Let's overrate it because we didn't expect that from him." Maybe a little of both, or maybe neither and it's all in my head. But in any case, I thought Get Out was meh. Maybe 43.72% as good as the reviews told me it was.
