I think the most obvious reason, and it was mentioned in the article, is that any lefty that has a strong arm is steered towards the pitching mound by the time they get to high school. For lefthanders, pitching is clearly the easiest way to advance to the next level (high school, college, travel ball etc.)

Two things that have baffled me over the years.....
Why is almost every knuckleball pitcher right-hander? To my knowledge, there has only been one lefty knuckleballers in the majors -- Wilbur Wood.
Why is the screwball always a lefty pitch? No right-hander throws it. Maybe it's just easier to go down and away from a lefty with a two-seamer?

My mom's first cousin was a lefty catcher. Blew people's minds back then.
