if we have a war with a sovereign state, we can probably have the whole thing without any regular combat, but most of the wars we've joined in the past 50 years have been tribal/guerrilla shit and you can bomb those guys forever with no impact. also i assume the next war we have with a real country is going to be mostly cyber-terrorism against each other which is going to fucking suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
as opposed to the more traditional wars like WWII, WWI, which were an absolute delight?
I’m not Yokel, but I took it to mean that every war in our lifetimes has been 10,000 miles away and there was never any remote chance of anything bad happening to 99.9% of Americans. A cyber-war will fuck with all of us.

this is what i meant - that war for civilian americans since the civil war has been pretty unremarkable. cyber war for civilian americans would be devastating. grid crash, fuel shortage, cash-only economy, internet gone if you happen to be in a place where the grid is up. we are way too soft for that shit.

TY. I feel smart for understanding this, FWIW. Also I agree. We're so fucking spoiled and the vast majority of us wouldn't have a goddamn clue how to do anything in that scenario. I like to think I have better than average basic survival skills, but I've also become so accustomed to just sitting on my ass and F5ing FIF/Twitter, that I'd probably be dead before I realized all that shit was gone and it was time to activate said skills.

Yeah...I can live in the woods and whatnot but I am entirely unprepared for it. By the time I figure out what's going on, the stores will be BLM'd, gas will be gone and I'll be stuck starving in suburbia.
ETA: Has had an encounter with Jennifer Aniston. What does that mean? Are we talking scheduled BJ on the calendar or running into Mark Eaton at a ski resort? I need to know where it falls on the FIF scale.

Yeah, starving in suburbia is such a bad option. Even with (or especially because) a garden at your home or whatever. I’d want to be a day or two ahead of any panic to get out of dodge to the woods. Is Jeep Bros have a designated meeting spot in the forest.
But anyways, I think there’s value to having some sort of bug out bag if you need to leave quickly. Not full Prepper Bro stuff, but something.

Honestly I don't think escape to the mountains or wherever is really achievable in a shutdown panic, gotta become the local warlord. Kony style. Face my child army and tremble, Charleston
