Twas my thought this morning as well. Just a monumental screw up all over.

I feel like that's obvious. The first baseman is a dolt. I like the trolling of the title that that was great baserunning.

It’s a good heads up move to confuse the first baseman into a dumb decision. But this is more a fuck up by the defense than a great play be Baez and/or the other runner.

Baez also seemed to not realize until late he had to be safe at first for the run to count.

I'm not 100% he ever knew. I think he just realized that first base was open.

I read somewhere that the front office wanted to tank, and that is why they promoted some young guys and now they are winning.
Was that really the plan? Seems like trying to win is the better option.
It's not like their young guys have been replacing better players. No, I don't think they were trying to actively tank. However, if they were floating around mediocre in the next 2 weeks, I think they would absolutely start selling off assets. I still am not convinced that KB doesn't get shipped before the deadline.
