Does Raiders of the Lost Ark count as action? Or is that "Adventure"? Because if it's action, it belongs in any top 5.
Die Hard is better than Aliens
I didn't count it as action because there's a little too much plot, IMO. Agreed though it's easily on there if it was considered action. I specifically left off Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon because they were more comedies.
Running Man probably deserves a top 5 spot but I didn't want to put on another Arnold flick. Robocop was borderline but my recollection is that there's some slow parts (I haven't seen it in years).
One of the things that surprised me when I was brainstorming after putting up my first list, and actually looking up movies...Seagal only has one 80s movie, Hard to Kill. That deserves an HM IMO too.

I've seen just about all of these movies being discussed, but I'm pretty sure the only ones I've watched in the last 15-20 years are Die Hard and maybe a couple of Rocky jawns. I couldn't even try to do this ranking because I barely remember most of these flicks. It's probably time to revisit a bunch of them.

I recently tewatched Running Man. I was surprised that the movie kind of sucked. Richard Dawson elevated that movie for sure. But the action wasn't all that good.

I saw Running Man in the theater and did not think it was good at all.
I have never seen The Hunger Games movies but when I heard about the first one I thought, "Isn't this Running Man?"
This list includes only the Tom Hanks movies that I've seen
From worst to first
The Man with One Red Shoe...don't really remember this but it's not highly regarded
The Ladykillers...Hanks + Coen Brothers just wasn't a great fit. There are some funny moments but ultimately forgettable
The Bonfire of the Vanities...A legendary train wreck of a movie that lives in Hollywood lore as one of the most difficult movies to make and an absolute flop
Charlie Wilson's War...vanilla pudding
The Terminal...true story of a guy who lived in an airport for like a month and it was about that interesting
Cloud Atlas...convoluted crazy story that I don't even remember understanding
Nothing in Common...one of his first serious roles with an ailing Jackie Gleason, I don't remember thinking much of it
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close...not even really a Hanks movie as he barely appears, tough 9-11 story
Volunteers...he met his wife on this movie, she was pretty hot, the movie was not
The 'Burbs...wasn't funny
The Da Vinci Code / Angels and Demons / Inferno...I only saw the first of this series and did not enjoy it, I suspect it didn't get better
The Circle...evil Steve Jobs fell flat, Emma Watson looked pretty good
The Money Pit...funny movie, probably doesn't hold up, might be the first movie on this list that I would consider rewatching
Dragnet...It was okay, it's time to say out loud that Dan Ackroyd ruins most things
Turner & Hooch...great names, mediocre flick
Greyhound...It was okay, paint by numbers war movie
Road to Perdition...Hanks first heel turn as he plays a murderer (even though he's not really the bad guy in the movie), solid movie, not spectacular despite having prime Hanks and Paul Newman
Sleepless in Seattle...As far as romantic comedies go, this one is pretty good, though not entirely interesting
Splash...Hanks bursts onto the scene is this standard 80's comedy fare
Larry Crowne...I'm not even sure why I like this movie because it is not very good, yet I watch it all the time when I see it on cable
Joe Versus the Volcano...It's not a good movie but damn it stuck with 14-year old me. I still use "Brain Cloud" all the time as a explanation for mistakes that I've made
You've Got Mail...Hanks and Ryan back together. This was okay, we are still in the mediocre level
Bachelor Party...Hanks first big role, great movie for its time, probably not one that holds up much now
Captain Phillips...This borders the line between mediocre and should-be-seen levels
The Polar Express...The first for-sure-you-should-have-seen-this movie. Christmas classic, raise your children right
The Post...I have this higher on the list because I have a soft spot for journalism movies, this is not a great journalism movie but it's good
The Green Mile...good but tooooooooooo long, some really epic moments though
Bridge of Spies...underappreciated true story, I think that Hanks used a dumb accent or something?
Philadelphia...Epic movie when it came out, Hanks + Denzel, Oscar noms, probably doesn't hold up much now, slow, slow pace
Cast Away...Arguably Hank's best acting effort despite more accolades coming for other roles. Bit longish. Spectacular crash scene.
A League of Their Own...Hanks is outstanding in this, my hometown is mentioned
Catch Me If You Can...Hard to believe that this is a true story, really well-written, Hanks kinda fucks around with a dumb accent, Leo kills it
That Thing You Do...Hanks wrote, directed, and appeared. Catchy music, young actors who went on to bigger things, good story from Erie, PA
Big...Really good movie, bordering on great
Toy Story 1-4...Classics
Saving Private Ryan...Deserves all the accolades that it has ever received (whispers...maybe cut 30-40 minutes....ducks)
Forrest Gump...Story + Music + Special Effects + Quotable lines, this is an American classic despite some people trying to downplay it over the years
Apollo 13...Most people liked it and admit that it is good, it's still underrated. It's his best most rewatchable movie
Isn't it a little racist to call it Black Friday? - Joy Behar

This is an extensive effort. My nitpicks:
I like Charlie Wilson's War more than you do.
I like Road to Perdition more than you do.
Sleepless in Seattle is better than You Got Mail.
Saving Private Ryan deserves to be the unquestioned #1.
Tom Hanks isn't anything great in Charlie Wilson's War. One of PSH's top 2 or 3 roles though.
Road to Perdition should have been better than it was, I agree.
The Dan Brown movies are dumb entertainment, I don't mind them but they're nothing special.
Agree strongly with your #1. I didn't like That Thing You Do as much but that's pretty much the only thing about Philadelphia that I wouldn't include somewhere in that block.
I also like Charlie Wilson and Perdition more than UEM does. And I like Castaway less than him. Like way, way less. It's definitely my least favorite Hanks movie.
My top 5 is probably Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Catch Me if You Can, League of Their Own, and Big. Toy Story might belong in there somewhere. I've never seen Apollo 13, somehow.

i loved The Burbs. Watched it on vacation when i was a yute many times, i think the local video rental place (pre-Blockbuster) was always under-stocked and The Burbs was one of the few available movies that the fam could agree on. Probably just can't separate the nostalgia from the movie, but today it rings very true watching Tom slowly descend into conspiracy theory territory with his idiot neighbors only to find out oh shit it's not a conspiracy.
