I peeped the first episode on the 'Cock. I guess the rest will be behind the paywall, so I am out.
Random Observations:
You have one of the iconic TV theme songs of all time. Use it! Instead it is a modernized version cut down to 20 seconds because no one uses opening title sequences anymore.
There were 2 or 3 legit LOL moments. The rest of the time it was lame sitcomy jokes made even more painful by the laugh track.
Except for John Larroquette, the cast seemed terrible. That could be bias in remembering the old cast and not yet knowing the new cast. The judge chick lacks the presence and charisma of Harry Anderson. I don't think more reps will do anything for her. She is replacing a legend. Not gonna happen.
It definitely follows the old Night Court formula. Maybe if the show is given time it could improve once the actors get a handle on their characters and the writers get comfortable or better.
The premise of the show just felt very rushed in the first episode. It was too much to cram into 20 minutes. Too hard to believe that Harry Stone's daughter would be able to convince Fielding to return just like that.
The big plot twist is Dan Fielding is the public defender now. OK.
Apparently the ratings were huge. Wonder where they will be at end of Season 1.
NBC’s update of Night Court opened to a big audience on Tuesday — bigger than any comedy on the network in more than five years.
The update of the 1980s-90s sitcom, starring The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch and original series fixture John Larroquette, delivered 7.55 million viewers for its series premiere on Tuesday. That’s the highest same-day viewership for an NBC comedy since September 2017, when Will & Grace’s return drew 10.19 million. A second episode Tuesday retained more than 90 percent of the premiere’s audience, coming in at 6.94 million viewers.
The premiere was also the largest same-day audience for any comedy on TV this season, topping the 7.43 million for an episode of CBS’ Young Sheldon on Jan. 5.
In the key ad-sales demographic of adults 18-49, the two episodes of Night Court posted ratings of 0.98 and 0.94 — the highest marks for any network entertainment show this season that didn’t have an NFL game as a lead-in. (Several episodes of The Simpsons and a Thanksgiving night edition of The Masked Singer on Fox have topped 1.0 ratings following NFL games.)
